Trying to pack in the rain...

Postby Karebru » Fri Jul 09, 2021 8:53 pm

Just came in from loading up for a few days at Highlands Hammock State Park in Sebring FL.
A quick run to Publix in the morning, grab our tooth brushes, and we'll be off.
The fridge is plugged in and "pre-cooling." Unlike the AC that works great, the little refrigerator struggles. They just aren't designed to quick cool.
I've found that running it overnight before a trip helps. I'll pack it with ice when I unplug in the morning. The food travels in a cooler. When we set up and plug in again, the ice come out, the food goes in, and the ice goes in to the emptied cooler for chilling drinks, etc.
Then, as long as we don't open it too much, the fridge keeps up.

Anyway, see ya. ;)
I'm not going outside until the temperature is above my age.

Karebru, Howdy;

A lot of RVers will put some milk jugs with frozen water in their
fridge to help them cool down quicker. Just a thought.
Have a fun time.

...And coming home and unpacking in the rain.
But, we had three great days without a drop on us.
Here's a few pictures, Don...

The campground was really nice. Large sites, well maintained, and lots of shade.

One of our favorite things is nature trails. Highlands Hammock has 9 that highlight different Florida forest terrains. Each one takes about a half hour.
Boardwalks over water are the best.

There's a small museum dedicated to the CCC. [Civilian Conservation Corp] FDR's park builders. It's something worth Googling, if you aren't familiar. It was all new to me.
This is the trail I liked...

And the catwalk...

Not much worries about safety in the 1930's.

This 10+ foot gator was hanging out along the catwalk. (Not a good picture.)
Image
I went back the next day and she had 3 babies laying on her back, sunning themselves. (And I forgot my camera.)
By the time I returned, the babies were here and there in the brush. She must have been laying on the bottom somewhere.

(Another bad picture.)

Oh, and thanks, Hank.
That's pretty much what we did.
And make sure they're secure. Or they'll blow the door open going down the road and jump out.
