Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Having got my TD insured and told you i was off on my hols; I was asked to post some photos of my first TD holiday in France. Well here they are. I know you guys have a problem with the French but the countryside is beautiful the food is great and the wine is plentiful and cheap. The route: my house, Dover, Calais, Montreuil, Le Mans, Chinon, Perigueux, Blois, Blangy, Calais, Dover, My House; 1850 miles at 28 mpg. Typical campsites were very good and at $5 to $12 per night cheap enough.

This post is just a few nice pics. I also intend to post some images of the campsites and other campers I found on the roads. To say the least no one had seen anything like my TD. It broke the ice and lead to a lot of long chats with the locals and other travellers.

So what were the comments on your tear by the French? And along the way..

The same questions I usually get. What is it? Do you sleep in it? Did you make it? “Ho my god it’s go a kitchen, quick ‘wife’s name’ come and look". Can I take a picture?

The only real problem I have with the french is they don't bathe often enough, and they don't turn the foreign legion loose on the terriorest of the world. really nice pics. Jim G

really nice pictures. Looking forward to more. Not everyone here has the same feelings and opinions. I do not have a problem with the French. It looks like you had a fabulous trip to some beautiful spots. These are things I would like to see myself along with a lot of other places in Europe.

There were a few good reasons to be French. The food and wine I have mentioned and let it be known, both are much better than even their reputation.

However they have had new drink driving laws 1/3 of a glass of wine max. And in two years they will be banning smoking in public places. And in all the campsites there was hot water 24 hrs a day and excellent showers.

So the NEW French will be sober non-smoking and clean. I think the world has lost something here.

Hmmmm, wonders how much it would cost to ship a T@B and Tow Vehicle over to Europe???? Can you even get regular gas over there??

By Gas I think you mean petrol.

Regular petrol in France goes by the name Sans-Plumb. Without Lead. and has a typical Octaine rating of 95. and as of last week cost a little less than in the UK at 1.23 Euro - 1.67 US Dollars.

Clive, I assume(dangerous) that at 1.67, that is for a litre...also when a Merikan references "regular" gas, they are talking about grades...regular is 85 octane, mid is 87 octane and premium is 89 octane...seems y'all have more potent gas than we do...must be all that good food and wine .....

Actually, I was referring to gasoline vs. diesel. (Also, the Premium Unleaded at our local Shell Station is 93 Octane)

What beautiful pictures!!!
Your trip sounds like just the sort of trip I would really enjoy.
I've visited parts of France before, long ago in the early 70's when I was an au pair for the school year & again in 2000 with some friends.
The French country side is so beautiful, & since I can still speak enough French to get by I've found the French in the country side much nicer than the French in Paris. So actually I've been to Blois twice, it is a very pretty area.
Now I feel like Heikki, wouldn't it be nice to be able to take my teardrop abroad & travel.

Yes a you assume litres. So thats $7.12 a gallon.

Its true to say my TD was built for this trip. We first went to France before we were married some 24 yrs ago. So to return is great.

Beware - there are as many different Octane ratings as there are countries in the world.
