Back from TOBA Tourney (lots-o-pics)

Postby Sonetpro » Tue Oct 02, 2007 6:05 am

Me and my partner and his boy fished the TOBA tournament this weekend. What a blast.
This tourney was a benefit for TOBA. http://www.texasopenbeaches.org/ Protecting our rights to open beach access.
I placed third with a 42" I was beat out by a 42 1/2" and a 43". My partners son took first in the kids division from the sand.
Fishing was tough with 3-4' breakers with 5-6' rollers offshore. If I wasn't in a tourny I probally would not have gone offshore, But with everybody taking to the bay's looking for calm water I knew the big ones were offshore. I also caught a sea turtle and thought he was going to beat me good trying to get hin unhooked.
This was a catch-photo-measure-release tourny so all fish were revived and released to fight another day.

Just got back from PINS last night. We just fished the channel near the Jetty. We didn't get much, a decent sheepshead, a few reds around 18-20 the biggest one was 24in. Just pip-squeaks compared to what you guys get.

Fishing is just half the fun, since half the guys who go don't even fish.

WOW ........... that looks like a blast. one question  what kind of boats are you riding there ??? looks like a WIDE Kayak, I bet a fish that big , would tow you all over the place. BUT, I sure would like to try it someday.

A lot of guy's use the Cobra Fish & Dive.(my next boat) I have a mainstream kingfish and a Malibu Kayaks Pro Explorer. Both of mine are 34" wide.
Yes they will tow you around we call it a Texas sleigh ride. Longest I have been towed was 3 miles by a big shark. When I finally got him to the surface and saw him and he was at least 7-8 foot. snip-snip too big to haul up for pic's.
