Heads Up on Starke/Gainesville KOA in Florida

Postby clkelley564 » Mon Oct 22, 2007 10:00 am

Not sure where to post this. Maybe we need a sub topic on campground reviews, quirks, cheers, & jeers. But anyway.

I did an overnighter on my way home from WDW on Saturday night at the Starke/Gainesville, FL KOA. While it was a nice campground and very neat and clean, they did have one rule that might make it difficult for Teardroppers, T@Bers, and other Tiny Travel Trailers to enjoy an extended stay there.

One of their main rules is no Free Standing Awnings or Screen Rooms on RV sites. It is in bold in their rules and is also posted as a notice on the front door of the store.

Not sure how they would feel about the T@B awning or tent room, since it is "attached" per se, but for those of us who use EZ-Ups or other types of shelters, they won't allow them.

:o Wow, how to discourage smaller units and tents. :( Thanks for the heads up.

:x What a wonderful place NOT to stay.

Maybe the big RV's got tired of all the attention the TD's were getting. :D

It may be more of a liability issue. ie. E-Z ups blowing over and damaging someone elses RV. I saw a E-Z up blow away at a swap meet and damage another persons 56 Tbird that was for sale. Owner of the E-Z up had to pay for the repairs on the Tbird. $>

My son and I stayed at a nice KOA in Des Moines on a weekend trip to MN. We weren't there long enough to put the EZup up. In fact we didn't even unhook the trailer from the car. Staying in the tear at the KOA was better then a hotel and a lot cheaper.

I'm not saying this is all KOA's, and I in fact did stay at this one as the previous poster did as an overnighter with out even unhooking. But if I'm going to stay for more than one night and there is even the slightest chance of rain, my EZ-UPs go up. Sitting in your chair watching the rain fall outside under the shelter is much better than being stuck in the camper.

Goldhead Branch State Park is close by and very nice.
Bet its a bit cheaper too. (I think it was 16 bucks to camp)
