Del visits Weaver Alabama

Postby depatty » Tue Dec 04, 2007 2:57 pm

Del stopped by on his way to Tampa with his teardrop camper, to spend the night, and to let us see his one of a kind creation, the Jelly Bean.

The following pictures were taken Tuesday morning just before he left out heading east for Atlanta before turning south toward Tampa.

<img alt="Jelly Bean and Subaru Tow Vehicle" src="http://www.technoprimitive.org/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/camperpixjelly-bean-and-subaru-tow-vehicle.jpg" width="600" height="450" />

<img alt="From the rear" src="http://www.technoprimitive.org/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/camperpixfrom-the-rear.jpg" width="600" height="450" />
Yellow it is even through the road grime. Quite an interesting build.

<img alt="Del opening the door" src="http://www.technoprimitive.org/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/camperpixdel-opening-the-door.jpg" width="600" height="450" />

<img alt="Door from inside" src="http://www.technoprimitive.org/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/camperpixdoor-from-inside.jpg" width="600" height="450" />
Reinforcement was required to keep the fit. Door latch is quite nice.

<img alt="Tongue extension" src="http://www.technoprimitive.org/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/camperpixtongue-extension.jpg" width="600" height="450" />
Tongue extension worked well. Original tongue ended just under the front of the body. A frame is angle bolted on for stability. Works quite well.

<img alt="Del hiding behind door" src="http://www.technoprimitive.org/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/camperpixdel-hiding-behind-door.jpg" width="600" height="450" />

7 days on the road makes for a bit of a mess. :roll:

<img alt="Storage shelf across bulkhead" src="http://www.technoprimitive.org/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/camperpixstorage-shelf-across-bulkhead.jpg" width="600" height="450" />

The hinge from hell! Does the job and with one person in the camper is not in the way with the door closed.

<img alt="Rain deflector and porch light" src="http://www.technoprimitive.org/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/camperpixrain-deflecter-and-porch-light.jpg" width="600" height="450" />

Galley hatch open with heavy duty prop. Hatch looks heavy but I could lift it with one hand quite easily.

Leaving out. We really enjoyed the visit! :vroom:

He couldn't have come down here at a better time:

The weather has been outstanding.

A little cooler than it's been, which he'll feel in Tampa, but still real nice.
Here we go again!

You're welcome! It looks better in person. I'm quite happy to have had the opportunity to examine it up close. I still want to know how heavy it is. The 8 inch wheels showed no wear and didn't bulge much at all. Not sure what load rating they have.

That's great! We nearly froze him last night sitting around the camp fire down at the fork of the creeks. :roll: Then he ran out of propane for his heater this morning about the time the temp hit the low for the night at 26.6 degrees F. I think he is really looking forward to the warmer temps. ;)

Actually I wouldn't mind spending some time further south either... :thinking:

Yup. That is yellow. I'm waiting for someone to drive into the side of it and say "I didn't see it".

Some friends of mine had a schoolie painted purple. And yes, some one hit it and and said they didn't see it. :thinking:

Thanks for the pix and update on Del's trip!

Postby DianeD » Thu Dec 06, 2007 12:13 pm

Wow, great pix. :thumbsup: Glad you got to meet Del. He's a truly great guy and quite a builder. He built my Subaru GL wagon and it's set up to tow, too.

Hope you hit the warmer weather soon, Del!

That trailer looks like the offspring of the Wienermobile and a huge jar of mustard! Just kidding, it's really cool! Talk about turning heads on the road and campgrounds - Wow!

Still holding together. Tires look like they are holding up well. :thumbsup:

Dave I would like to ask permision, please, to use the pic "del hiding behind door" for my avitar, if you do not object. Will be spring before I can change it, unless one of the administration takes pitty on me and changes it.
