I went to a local aluminum foundry the other day to see about having a new guard cast for an old Delta disk/belt sander I have. Was quoted about $50.
I'm sure that a pair of molds for waffle dogs could be done and for about the same price. One would have to drill holes for the handles and also for the hinge pins but it could be done easily and might be a fun project.
An existing waffle dog iron would be needed for a pattern. The replica irons would be about 1.5% smaller due to shrinkage as the aluminum cools but I doubt even a "waffle dog" expert would be able to detect the counterfit waffle dogs from the genuine article!
Any interest?
Cheers,
Gus
