You can do the regular old waffle batter recipe on the bisquick box...or just about any batter, we've used pumpkin bread batter as well, I'd bet you could do banana bread batter. I doctor up the corn bread mixtures a bit with some cornmeal, or cut your water/milk to thicken it up for hot dogs. The will want to rise a bunch, so watch your amount you ladle in. Once you play with it all, you will get the idea of just how thick the batter needs to be, if experimenting with other batters.
Like in the U-tube video...get it up to temp...pour a bit of batter, lay in the dog, top with some more batter. Don't try and put it in the other half of the iron and think you can flip it closed...it can be a mess. You are going to have to experiment as to how much you need to pour. As soon as the heat hits it, the batter will swell up a bit as it cooks. Watch for oozing if you get too much. Fruits/ chocolate or anything sweet will want to make it stick as the sugar burns. Make sure you don't get those items directly on the aluminum. I'd add them rather than mix them in the batter.
For corn dogs...the 10 count dogs work the best, the 8 counts are too big and don't allow as thick of a crust, but it can be done. I precook the dogs, especially important on breakfast sausages...if raw, by the time it got cooked, the waffle would be burned.
It only takes a few minutes to cook the waffle dog. Pre-heat both sides equally. Once up to temp...Pam should smoke on it a bit. Pour them, let it cook a bit...check by opening the lid to see how it's doing. If it tears apart...just close it and cook it the rest of the way, till it's the color of a waffle. Flip the cooker a time or 2 to evenly cook it. I also use a shot of Pam, but a batter with some oil in it may be fine on it's own. Pam almost guarantees a drop out and not a pick out.
Just what I've experienced with it all, but I don't have the "official" instructions on using it....you're going to have to play with it to learn just how much to pour...once you get it down...it's a piece of cake, or should I say waffle! Have fun Redgloves!!! Doug
