Lodge DO... new lid design??

I have never used a dutch oven for cooking, and now just starting to familiarize myself with some of the iron. The first name that came to mind was "Lodge". It seems that there are new lid designs in the line up. I have seen others place the charcoal on the top of the lid while cooking. The new Lodge lids, do not have the lip, or rim around the top anymore.

Is this new design a step backward for Lodge's traditional designs? What other popular DO brands are recommended?

I will read the sticky on the top of this section for more info.

You may be looking at the Dutch Ovens that are for home use like in the oven in your kitchen. :D Danny

Danny is right, that is the kitchen model. You want a "CAMP" model that has the lip on the lid. This is a very old design from the Revolutionary days from what I hear.
Take the 405 to my house in Lawndale and I can show you the real thing.
I got the last one at WalMart in NoCal. You have two stores to check with.

I hope to try a pork roast cooked in milk this weekend. Sounds odd but looks very good. That will make my second attempt a using a DO :applause:

cuyeda,
dmb is right, the one you pictured is sometimes called a bean pot. It could be used outdoors with a tripod, on a grill or DO lid stand and would be good for beans or stews or something like that. If you lift the lid, many have little ridges that help with self basting so the condensation drips back in the pot.

Thanks to all!

Sorry, I found the "camp" DO section on the website after your posts.
