If you only have an oven or two, the pet tags are nice. If you have a "fleet" of iron you may want to make your own from the brass key tags. I have a bag of the brass tags along with my stamps. I'm way behind in tagging my iron.

Wanted to get some tags before Mendcino. I found out that all the lockshops in my area are mobil only. No shop to go to. Niether Lowes or Home depot had them. Guess I'll have to try smaller hardwares or hit Petsmart.

If you have only a few bits of iron you can do what I did. I needed them fast so I went to WalMart and picked up some key rings and 3 different pairs of blank keys. Lady did not know if she could sell blank keys so I told her to pretend they were actually keyed. That made her happy and I have my temporary tags. :D Cost apx $3.30 a set.
I will try to stamp them later or get the "proper" brass ones

Hi Mary,

I've heard of a number of folks that have used regular washers (like you would use with a bolt). Since most folks don't use them, you probably wouldn't even have to stamp them. It should get you by for the Mendocino gathering.

I have a grand total of two ovens tagged...
An IDOS 5"er that Matt sold to me and a 14"er that Mike B. tagged for me at Shasta.
It does make yaa keep an eye on your iron at DOGs without them...

Found tags. Went to my local ACE hardware. Got 4 brass tags, 4 rings, and two initial stamps. Total cost- $ 5.94. The major cost was the stamps @ $1.69 each. I should have thought of this place. It's almost 100 years old and they must have one of everything somplace. I don't think they even know all of what they have.

Here are some copper or brass tags that you can get imprinted with you name and address for very little cash outlay.

http://larryafinch.com/copper_tags.htm

Shipping is free, too! The enlarging feature for a better view only works on the copper tag section.

I got mine at Mr. Lock on the Net: http://www.mrlock.com/eshop/locks/35312BX.html

Unfortunately, you can only get them 100 per box. I still have at least 70 left.

I just got my tags so I'm not an expert. I was able to buy the number I needed at the hardware store. My tags are brass circles 1 1/2 inches in diameter. I stamped my initials on them.Though, most of the others I've seen on other people's ovens are around an inch . The ring is just a silver colored key ring that is an inch in diameter. I put mine on the lid handle and on the wire handle. You also could put the pot tag on the loop for the wire handle. You don't do anything differently when you use the oven. It's just a way of identifying your stuff and making sure you don't mix up lids if you have more than one of the same size..
