Will there be sign uP's or names in the hat to be chosen as an official tester 8)
and judge of this Waffle-Off?

Will it be a blind testing or will this be just a bunch of waffles hitting the plates
in a fist of furry type display. Where the sounds & shine of silverware in the
morning sun bearing down on plates with the smiles of satisfied people be the
norm, without the competition factor involved?

It appears with the amount of money & effort being spent on this affair that ;)
the Gross Domestic Product of the USA should rise substantially as the
flowage tests go forward with the different mixtures and Waffle-isation techniques.
Many of us can attest to the cost of waffle iron prices on ebay going uP as
this affair took root in earnest.

People's choice award for waffles

Postby Esteban » Fri Aug 31, 2007 2:06 pm

I made a similar suggestion (PM) to Doug:

Steve B wrote:Doug, is the nature of the Waffle Off to be more:
A) A contest with judges and limited tasting/eating by most people.
B) People who show up around 9AM get a (free) waffle breakfast.
C) (free?) waffle breakfast with People's Choice award with a show of hands and/or cheering for the winner?

I vote for C and have offered fresh strawberries to go with them.

Doug, I'd like a hands on waffle making class or demonstration Saturday morning where even newbies can give it a try. We could set up stoves on the picnic tables and cook waffles for everybody who wants one. Have some good natured fun if someone flubs. I have a new little twenty buck cast iron waffle maker from Amazon. I'd enjoy learning to make camp waffles. Don't need a special secret mix..don't have one. Dan aka 1/2 of "Italia" from Orcutt, CA has one coming in soon from Ebay. Dave Klinzman aka "TDhombe" has an antique one he bought locally. There may be others, too, who would bring their waffle irons. We could set up tables and stoves and cook together for the fun of it. Give the waffles away to all comers. Maybe have tip jars or something to defray the cost of ingredients. People could have a show of hands or cheer for the one they like best for a People's Choice Award. How does that idea sound to you? (I'm not pulling rank as the SLO Gathering honchito just an idea for your consideration).

Doug wrote:I'd vote for C also...and maybe a demonstration. I've got a 3 burner Coleman that maybe I'll drag out and fire up to see if it works. We could cook with 2 makers on that one. I had no intention of an "official" contest with rules and such...just some fun and eats for people... Doug

9am is a bit late for breakfast isn't it??
Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind? Ask yourself these simple questions every time you are in doubt about any action.
