DUTCH OVEN COOKING BELOW ZERO

Postby bobhenry » Mon Jan 21, 2008 7:59 am

Found out that a 14" smokey Joe junior by Webber make a wonderful wind screen for a 12" dutch oven. If you put the lid on you need to shim it up so the top coals can breath. I just left it off and look what happened.

This was my very 1st dutch oven meal. You will have to ask the extreme team how it tasted !

Kudos on your first DO meal. I have to admit that your first meal looks better than mine did. Mine wasn't bad but I'm sure it wasn't as tasty as the one you did. Yum!!

My toy webber grill and I are old pals. I have already worn out one and thats hard to do with a webber. I really wish I had kept the bowl and lid now. (The grill and charcoal rack is what dies). The pictures were taken on the 1/19/08 shivaree it was about 22 degrees at the time the picture was taken. The stew was resting on about 16 coals and you can see what was on top. The stew was at a slow rolling simmer for 2 hours +/-. The wind was light but created no problem. The coals held well and I feel the sides were as evenly heated as the top and bottom. This setup should be excellent for baking. What amazed me was how closely they fit. Like they were made for each other
