George....they really did a great job on that!!! Did you find that it took less time or coals when baking? Another advantage is that after it is cooked you can keep the pizza in the bottom half as a warmer while you eat, no more cold slices at the end...but then I've never had a problem with the last slice, cold or otherwise. Slick idea guy!   Doug

Doug, 12 under 18 over I thought it was done at 30 minutes but thecrust could have used more time maybe a few more coals under neith. still toying with it, the top is only 2.75 inches.

kevin, I too was thinking cookies would be perfect in there.

I like the pizza oven! But just looking at it, why couldn't you weld a couple (3) legs to the lid of a 12 or 14 and cut the legs off the pan and weld on some sort of a handle on the bottom. Would look just like it. I remember someone having a lid holder made from horse shoes at the IRG 2.0. Those would work in a pinch for the lid legs. I have a pot I use on the stove that I cut the legs off long time ago. But I like the idea of having a pizza Dutch oven. The cost is a bit, though.
I haven't tried to weld on cast iron. Does anyone know how that would work? I thought I read about it on this forum once.
I cut it three times and it's still too short!!
Perfection is all I ask.......

Probably need a pre-heat and a post-heat as well.

George,

I have found that preheating the oven really helps. When I do pizza using a pizza ring, I preheat the bottom and top. I'll bet your crust will be perfect.

Oh yeah......

As for the price I'll have to talk to the foundry but I know they won't be cheap, unfortanetly small run and each one would be made one at a time and packed by hand. This is why Lodge, Camp-chef and even Maca buy from over seas. I know they will somewhere around $140 - $160 :(

Is there a special discount for Camp-cook.com member?

How big an order does it take for a discount?

Way Cool! I want to buy one!

Could you put legs and a handle on both the top and bottom? Then it would be a 2-in-1 Dutch Oven that you could use either way.

this is a great idea but I want one with or wihout

If you have some of those horse shoe trivets or something else to hold it up off the coals, you can flip that lid and make a great deep dish stuffed pizza.

I hope you started the patent paper work on these George, if not we'll see them coming out of China before long!

Well, I've crunched some numbers and here's what I've come uo with...

PIzza oven $140
packaging $5
shipping will depend on how far from So Cal, I checked with UPS and San Fran is $20 and NY is $50. They weigh in 31# ( the walls are 3/16" thick)
If you want to pick them up from me and save on the shipping and packaging thats cool too.
You would receive them un seasoned.

If your interested in a oven PM me and tell me your zip code and I can let you know on the shipping.

They would take somewhere between 4 to 6 weeks for delivery.

I know its alot of money, especially now days. If i could sell them cheaper I would.

Thanks again for all the positive comments, I guess the love of cast iron cooking runs deep.

Rich, Patents for stuff like this are useless all someone has to do is change the design by 10% and its theirs. Shorten legs, make lid taller, thicken walls change lettering, Patent obsolete.

Working in the foundry industry I see it all the time. It really sucks for those that come up with a truely new idea. As for me I didn't invent dutch ovens I just tweaked one for my needs.

Maybe a few of us will get some cooking enjoyment out of these. and I do appreciate the encouragement

Sunny, I like the way your thinking we should all do what works for us but lets be honest it wouldn't "look just like it" ;)

George, when are you going to be doing the runs on these. Got a particular time frame? This isn't exactly my money making time of the year.
I'd really like to get one but it would have to be late spring early summer. The price really isn't an issue it's just the cash inflow right now. 8) 8)
