Dutch Oven Dummy

Postby Kevin & Sandy » Thu Mar 25, 2010 12:10 pm

I goofed this time !!! I have seasoned several pieces of cast iron cookware and learned quite a bit in the process. So I picked up this bean pot with lid at an auction and thought I would get it going.

I cleaned it up and went to season it on the BBQ grill. I thought it was done, so I brought it in the house and set it on a hot pad to cool.

AAARRRGGGGHHH !!!!! :( When I lifted it up the next morning it had stained/wrecked/ruined/destroyed my wifes hotpad, which HAPPENED to be one of the last ones she had saved from her Grandmother !!!

I think I have groveled enough and promised enough camping trips this summer to make up for though !!!!!

You might want to move......women have total recall, you will hear about this for the rest of your live. Or you could learn to make pot holders!
Good luck. I have been where you are and I don't like it.

Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want.

Through experience, I have learned to keep dutch oven stuff away from 'real kitchen' stuff.

I know this is an old post, but...

I have separate everything. My own potholders (welder's gloves), my own place-mats (round cork covered Masonite intended for placing houseplants on, that I picked up at HD), and my own wooden spoons. I learned that lesson long ago. I even have my own kitchen brush, because I can't seem to scrub iron without getting a little black on the brush, which is intolerable, doncha know.
God Bless

No post is too old if it keeps another man from going to the dog house for something he ruined.

That's where mine lives also ! Someone has learned a big ol' cast iron skillet bakes a great cake. I only have one complaint she absolutely refuses to clean them. She will leave them for me to "Baby" ( her words not mine) . Oh well a small price to pay for a warm out of the oven red devils food cake all iced up and ready for a cold glass of milk
