Finally got the lid!

Postby doug hodder » Tue Apr 27, 2010 8:57 pm

Almost 1 year to the day of finding this skillet at an antique store in Redding...I got the hammered lid that matches it. Really a nice one...needs some seasoning, hinged, has basting rings, mates up perfectly. Kevin found it on E-bay for me and I won it...Thanks Kevin! I appreciate your keeping an eye out for me. Paid more for the lid than the skillet, but when all is said and done, according to the value guides...I'm OK on it all. Plan is to break it in at the Dam with some chicken...Hope it quits raining...Doug

Doug what kind of iron is that? A friend of mine has a set of skillets that she inherited from her grandmother that looks alot like that. She's been trying to find info on it. Actully she didn't inherit it.. the others in the family were going to throw them away!! :? She thought they might be useful so she kept them. I told her to hold on tight to them because I hadn't seen any like them before. What should we look for for markings etc. on them to identify them?

They are Griswold, chicken fryer. #2028 deep skillet and #2098 lid.
If you can get some pics posted of your friend's skillets, maybe we can help identify them.

I especially enjoyed the Sunday morning waffle cook-off that Doug and Kevin held. Kevin made up pumpkin spice waffles that were oh so good with a bit of whipped cream.

Yes; they used the cast iron irons
