I finally got aroung to getting some good pictures of my rat tail spider skillet.









The close up shows the rough sand casting. I as almost sure it is a one off sand casting. As old as dirt.

I like your dutch oven table. Question! The dutch oven that has the lid on it with the ring. What brand is that, and was the ring already on it or did you put it on there? Reason I ask is, I bought one for my spider(not knowing it was the wrong size). Mine has no ring on it. I was wondering how it was designed to be lifted.
Anyway, what's the story on the new table? Did you cut loose with some cash on a new one? I think I might have heard the story but can't remember.

The D.O. table was a gift from a fellow camper. I had done some electrical work and designed him a 12 volt & 120 volt combination light and had given him a electrical center from a large motor home and this arrived on my fronnt door step as a thank you.

As to the big pot with the ring. The ring is HAMMER WELDED so it is ancient. It appears to be a cousin to the bean pot as they share several casting similatities. (The lid on the bean pot is a 10" lodge I purchased at a yard sale).

These and the rat tail spider were lurking in the wife's brothers basement when he was moving out of state and he knew we camped so I was presented them.

They have all seen good use since they arrived. They are as smooth as glass inside and rough as a corn cob outside. They all appear to be sand casted as you can see where the gate marks ( where the molten cast iron is poured into the mold) were ground off. I have a mair lid lifter that accomidates the lid even with the ring.

White feather, I think my spider has a better patina on it. More of a dark brown to black color -- kind of like a good cast iron spider.
