New to me cast iron grill (Update)

Postby Joamon » Sun Jun 05, 2011 6:15 pm

Went to the flea market and found one of these.
I've been wanting one of these for a long time. I've never been a great outdoor cook, but I have found memories of this grill.
Back in the day my father-in-law and I would get together. I would buy the steaks and he would cook on one of these.
I was able to talk the guy out of it for $15.00. Now I need to clean it up and season the grill. It's missing two parts that I need to fabricate.
One is the vent door. The other is the clean-out (or the coal) door. What's there is in good shape.
I have a grinder and a welder I am ready to use a little more.
I am looking foward to working on this and cooking with it. :D :)

Great piece, I just camped with someone that has one and it was missing the vent door also. They ordered it from Lodge. It worked great, it's a sweet grill! Good find!

I checked their website. Didn't see any pieces. I think I'll give them a call just to see what it would run with shipping.
Thanks for the heads up.

Well I just called and it was a little over eight bucks for the parts and five for shipping, so they are on the way.
Once I clean and season it, it should be like new.

I scraped , wire brushed and sanded this thing. I then wiped it down and painted it with BBQ paint. Then added the new parts from lodge.
The top grill I only oiled. Ready to cook on. :D :R
Sorry for the pics. They were taken in bright sunlight with my phone.

There's one of these on the local Craigslist for $30.

I just can't justify the expenditure right now... :(
