Well said, Doug..I too, want the elusive Waffle Dog iron. My friend makes excellent sausage that I think you would love...and would be excellent in a WD. However, the price gets driven up..and I'm just not wanting to pay that much for one. Not that I don't really want one, it's just that it's silly..

Don't mean to say that those of you who have paid that much shouldn't have..it means a lot when someone spends that kind of dough on something for someone they love. That's really awesome. I just mean it's silly for me, and some others, to spend that much due to the WD frenzy. I lived fine without one all these years..I don't need to blow 3 months worth of gas for one (ok..so I ride a scooter..shoot me!)

So..if you see one, tell your friends privately. Maybe then we can all get one at a decent price!!

I agree completely If i were to find one in the wild I would happily give it up to one of the guys here for cost+shipping. My wife just knew how badly I wanted one and couldn't let me suffer any longer :D. I will continue looking, but in the meantime I'm gonna enjoy the one I got. I will keep my hoarding tendencies to Coleman Lanterns.

I have a Google Alert set up, but haven't seen anything lately. If I do, I sure won't post it here.

There have been several on ebay since this post started. They have been going for around $70+shipping. I managed to find one that was listed poorly and made the seller an offer after no one bid on it, got it for under $50 after shipping. That is about the best you can hope for now on ebay.

Been watching, just none at a price I'm willing to pay. They have been few and far between lately. Oh well, I'll just keep looking. Worked for the b-day lantern.

In addition to the waffle dog iron I recently bought I also picked up these items. The bad thing is that they did not come with the base, but I paid less for both of these than I did for the waffle dog.

I will be bringing them to IRG with me, maybe we can cook some dixie dogs too.

Dan...we'll have to check the length of your Dixie dogs compared to a square waffle iron. They may fit into that base. They could also be used as is over a stove though I'd think. Or you could always weld up a small angle iron base and pop rivet some aluminum for sides to direct the heat into them. The hinge balls and the handle stub don't appear to have wearing like they would have been in a base though. Is there a patent # anywhere on them that can be searched? Doug

There is wear marks on the handle ends where they sat it a base. I asked the sellar about a base, but when she got them the base was gone. There is not patent #, but I have been able to find similar style items on the web. I have thought about trying to make a base for them. Maybe later when I have some time.

Three more just sold in the last two days. The lowest was $61 and the highest went for $76. All three were around my spending limit when I found them, so no bid for me. Sooner or later all the people willing to pay stupid money will either have one or forget about them. Then I will be able to get the $10.00 'dogger. Looks like it will be a long wait.

Have you all tried freecycle? You'd be surprised at some of the stuff other people are willing to give away.

Just thought I would show this here for anyone that is following this post. I made a base for the Dixie Dog makers that I bought.

I made it using an old heavy metal door from a industrial cabinet. For the ball swivel area I used a piece of pipe.

Here is the base with the Dixie Dog makers.

And here it is next to my waffle dog maker.
