For the cast iron seminar, at CRA, Bob Henry selected a "rookie" cast iron user to make her first ever dump cake It was cherry pie filling with a red velvet cake mix, and dr. pepper. She did a great job and took it to the pitch in dinner that evening, and there was not a single bite left. It went over very very well. Thanks Christine for your participation. :applause:

I agree it can be a lot of fun. I got my daughter to make her first dump cake at the age of 12.

There is a thread about it on here somewhere.

I just like the idea of the dump....pour it and let it go on its way.

That looks delicious! How long did you cook it over coals and what number did you use on top and bottom? I have done some cobblers before but never a dump cake but I will be doing that in October.

Hi Cajun Lady,

I cheated this was at home and was on the gas grill on low for about 45 minutes.

I would think maybe about 40 minutes at 350 in the standard oven.

The pineapple juice and soda give it the extra, extra flavor...or is that I am also having a glass of pineapple soda as well!!???    :? :? 8) 8)

Let me know how your turns out??

For chocolate, Use a chocolate chunk brownie mix and use the directions for the more cake-like brownies. Cherry pie filling in the bottom of the DO then the prepared brownie mix on top (just mix it in a Ziploc bag AKA Boy Scout mixing bowl) If you want, you can throw some mini marshmallows on top. For an extra bit of flavor, give it a shot or two of good brandy in with the cherries.

Why you little cheater! ;) I am going to try it at home outside cooking over coals before I go camping in October. I am using your mouth watering recipe with the 'extra' flavoring added. Thanks for the recipe!
