Griswold ....New Life

Postby Vedette » Thu Feb 13, 2014 3:30 am

On the way home from the Fall Brigade we found a "small logo #10 Griswold frying pan" It was smooth as silk and had a nice flat bottom.
No signs of abuse....so we spent the money and added it to our new but growing collection.
Well over Christmas our latest (less than two month old) "non stick" frying pan was already starting to warp and stick. :x
As we have a "Glass Top Range" we have always been reluctant to us "Cast Iron" for our daily cooking; but we thought we would try it out??
Well, it has earned a place on top of our stove ever since!
Cooks faster! No sticking! Everything tastes better! Easy clean up!
Can not say enough good things about this old frying pan!
And it is nice to have it come out of retirement to serve us so well!
New is not always best?
Can't wait to take it camping with us.....for those special camp morning breakfasts, lunches, and suppers!!!! :R

Cast iron might stain a flat top. But they hold the heat better when the burner cycles on and off. A thin pan will burn and a thick nonstick is spend and only last a couple years. All I use is Lodge CI on my flat top.

I have used cast iron on my glasstop stove for years with no problems. Used eveything from my Wapak to new Lodge pan. Heck I even use my 23Qt pressure canner FULL for canning. BUT... I am careful about sliding large heavy things across the top of it. I pick things up to move them.

I have an old cast iron pan that is my daily use on a flattop ceran electric range and the only concern is that it does mark the top slightly between polishing the top of the range..
