The Lodge Factory outlet store

So I happened to be driving up I-40 when I saw the billboard for the Lodge Factory Outlet store in Sevierville, TN.

Well, I loves me some cast iron so I couldn't resist a visit.

The short version is - don't go out of your way to visit a Lodge Factory Outlet store.

95% of what they sell is first quality stuff, at a price you can pay anywhere.

The remaining 5% is "factory seconds". I looked at a few, and the problems were obvious, but not detrimental to use of the cookware. Yet the prices are only 15-20% off full MSRP on new, first-quality items.

Just so all you cast-iron junkies know...

So maybe a good reason to go would be variety and availability of selection?

Okay, sure - if you're the sort of person who has to touch things before you buy them. Otherwise, I'm certain that anything Lodge makes is available for sale online... maybe even cheaper than full MSRP.

Or maybe is just a side trip. Like seeing a muffler man or the worlds largest ball of paint (seriously!)

Our first trip was to Chattanooga, the only reason we didn't stop is because we had a serious case of gethomeitis. We hadn't fully embraced the camping lifestyle. Next time...we'll stop.

We have purchased many "2nds" in Pigion Fordge and Sevierville. If your careful and look around the pile you can get some good deals. I think most of our cast iron has come from both those stores. We try to hit it each time we are in town to see if there are any different styles or items we want. Got a nice WOK last fall for $5.99 and use it weekly now.

Guess I am just a snob but Lodge hasn't built a decent skillet since 1950 in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I have a dozen Lodge skillets but they are flat bottoms, no notches, single notches and 3 notch units all made in the 30's and 40's

My prize possession is a Chicago Hardware chicken fryer love the hammered look !
