More Cast Iron

Postby Vedette » Mon Dec 15, 2014 11:29 pm

A couple of weeks ago, while doing a DO demo for my daughters Brownie pack at a local Bible Camp. I found a beautiful #12 Griswold frying pan. It was in use at the camp and was nicely seasoned and smooth as silk. I mentioned to a couple of the other brownie leaders how wonderful this pan was and how I would love to have it in my collection.
Well that info was passed on to my daughter, who contacted the Bible Camp director to see if they would consider parting with it.
So, this morning we went back up to the camp, and I was able to come home with the pan after making a generous donation to the camp for its replacement.
Love an early Christmas Present....even if it did have to come out of my wallet??

Sounds like a good score! I just called today about some bees wax bars that I found locally on craigslist that I'm going to pick up this week to get all my CI both camping and home whipped into shape. :D

WOW, #12's are hard to find. They are very pricey unless found in the wild.

I seasoned them all pretty and black and tossed them in a yard sale for $20.00 each and they sold instantly.

The one on the right is a lodge for $2.00.

I FOUND THE ORIGINAL POST..............

A couple weeks ago I scored a Griswold # 8 waffle iron on ebay dirt cheap because it was missing the base. As promised by the seller it was in excellent shape and had been well cared for. I then rounded up a scrap piece of 8" schedule 40 pipe 3" long, trued both faces on the lathe, then milled the slots down to the required depth to accept the waffle irons turret ball and handle, along with a couple of tabs welded on the inside to support the sides and prevent tipping, I also made the turret for the ball end to rest in like the factory base from a piece of EMT that I found in "File 13", along with a cut off handle from a welders chipping iron. I then bead blasted the newly made base down to good clean iron. I then also found another use for my Traeger Pellet Stove as I used it to season the whole thing and not smoke up the wife's kitchen. Made Waffles on it Saturday morning and it worked fantastic!
