Post Your Dam Gathering Pictures Here!

Postby teardrop_focus » Wed May 04, 2011 6:43 pm

Drove almost the length of California to get to The Dam Gathering, and man! was it worth it! I finally got to meet some of the greatest people; some of whom I'd known online here for a couple of years!

This was just one of the many unbelievable vintage tug/trailer combinations in attendance...

This is not my rig; it belongs to John? or Dave? or?...

More trailer pics here, in Chas's link (thank you! Chas!)

Phil and Randy both had amazing teardrops, too. Got to meet the Five Wide Club!!! What a neat bunch! Thanks for your hospitality!

Didn't take many pictures of trailers (too busy with my first-time campaign? Yes.) but I did take a couple of pics of our Thursday night warm up and our Friday night light up.

Here's Kevin's table with some of his lanterns... Doug and I added a few as a warm-up for the next night's display...

Doug was up and had a fire going every morning, God bless him...

Dolores's ebelskivers... Mmmmm...

Image

That's Jerome and Delores' teardrop. It's the first teardrop trailer Doug built and was recently found and purchased from it's second owner...

The Amazing Kevin_A and Steve E...

My half-finished trailer, a half-teardrop camp-gear wagon. I filled it w/ ten lanterns and a 426D, among other things...

Getting ready for the Dutch Oven feast...

...which was followed by our 32(?) lantern light up...

After that last pic had been taken the fella who owns the beautiful truck and teardrop in the first pics (Dave? John?) of this thread brought over the Coleman chandelier shown in the center of this next pic...

Image

All in all, it was a great trip. The road on the way out...

Image

Can't wait to get back there! Thanks for looking... and POST YER PICS! :)

Thanks again, Grant! for putting on a wonderful event.

What, Thats it, No more pics? :( I thought you Jefferson People were picture takers. I'd love to hear a little more about the event. How many trailers showed up? How was the weather? I could not make it down there. So I was hoping to live vicariously through your stories and pictures. Come on throw me a bone.

I usually take a lot of pics but this year I didn't go. Have too many long distance trips planned. Had to miss this one but will be there next year if my health stays up.

We had a great time! Cast Iron Chef, plenty of tears and tows, great folks!, a sidetrip to some beautiful waterfalls...here are a few... more can be found here https://www.me.com/gallery/#100022

The weather was awesome!! The lake was full...I hear there were at least 80 trailers. Roly's 1/4 Nelson won People's Choice...Mary and her mugs got the award for the Longest Trip. Kay and her Seafood Stoup won the Cast Iron Chef...though everything was tasty!!

That would be Roly's 1/4 Nelson stacker. Takes peoples choice everywhere he goes, and for good reason :) The runner up was La Tortuga, which I personally loved. Wonderful pirate theme. I love a trailer with a good theme!

We had a fabulous time as well, our first dam gathering. Everyone was was wonderful, both to the two of us, and our foster son, Mike, who was traveling with us. He is still talking about you guys, Doug, Kevin and Cowboy, and everyone else who spent time with him. Thanks so much for giving him a trip of a lifetime in a lifetime without many good things to remember. it doesn't take much, just a little attention to hopefully change a life.

Joe, of "vacations in a can" had a contest to name his new rental tear, which was not quite finished, but campable, with a Hawaiian theme. The winners were Caryn and Rob for "Can'em Dano." They talk about it on their blog here: http://vacations-in-a-can.com/blog/

I am surprised all you folks on the west coast weren't wondering about the strange glow in the air on Thursday and Friday nights, the "big glow" of the lanterns. It was a sight to see. My god it was bright! 8)

It was also way cool to have three Dougkraft creations in one place! #1,2 and 4. Road Titan, American voyager, and his first, the Comet.

Some folks took advantage of Grant's offer to tour his shop, but most folks just lazed around. We went down to Redding one day and checked out Turtle Bay and the Sundial bridge. What an incredible place. Check it out if you are in the neighborhood.

Chris, great to finally meet you and the bottom half of your tear. Look forward to meeting your wife and the top half soon!

And our neighbors Donn and Donna, Steve and Patty, Chris, Fred and Charlie.. it was great. And of course all the new friends we met, and others we have met before and reaquainted. Great time, so sad to be back to work. :( [/url]

Thanks for the picts, so I can see what I missed :-((

It looks like it was quite a "moooving" adventure, and I am truly sorry that I was not there.

Next year the Dam Gathering will have to trump Stagecoach !!
Hope to see many of you before then.
