This is a free event again this year, last year was a great time, see you all there. We're going up Friday and staying the weekend

We'll be there. Already have reservations in Bishop for the trip up and back. If you get the same spot as last year, park the jeep where we were to save it for us.

Got my Scan Gauge for the Tacoma, can't wait to see the transmission temperatures are when we climb that last hill.

I forgot to mention, no tables in any of the sites, so pack/plan accordingly.
FS sets up a booth along with several other groups so lots of swag and maps.

tl;dr
Topaz has been evacuated north of Hwy 89 to the Nevada state line. For public safety, Hwy 89 remains closed between Hwy 395 and Hwy 4 (at Monitor Pass). Hwy 395 is closed from the junction of State Route 182 in Bridgeport to the Nevada state line. However, Hwy 395 will be open with highway patrol escort when safe.

Bummer, I use the Chevron Station in Topaz as my cheapest gas in that area.

Update Slinkard Fire: 9/3 12:30 PM - Full containment expected on Friday 9/8
395 is open but expect some delays because of firefighting equipment.
89 remains closed and not expected open anytime soon.

In case your GPS doesn't correct for road closures:

The best route to/from the east side:
Take 395 to Gardnerville - cheap gas at the Pacific Station on 395 a block south of turn off - was $2.51 on Labor Day weekend
From 395 turn West on Riverview Dr
Continue onto Dresslerville Dr
Continue onto NV-756 W / Centerville Ln
Turn Left onto NV-88 S
Continue onto CA-88 S
Turn left on CA-89 S
Go thru Markleeville and turn right on Hwy 4

This adds 30 miles to the 395 - 89 - Hwy 4 route from Bishop and looks like less switch backs
