Who else rides centuries. I've ridden at least one a year since 1986.

I did 2 last summer but none this summer. I decided I didn't want to train to a schedule this summer.

I'll probably do a couple next year.

I have done a lot until about 5 years ago. Now I am happy when I kick 25 out! :(

did centurys all the time when i was in a different shape than now. most memorable was the hotter n hell 100 in wichita falls back in aug 1989, temp was 105 winds out of the west at 30 and completed the circuit in 4:23.

shortly after that i went to a mountain bike rally with my rigid fuji and hurt my back. well the doctor did some xrays and found i had a little bit of spina diffida (cant spell that one right) basically was ordered off my bike at that point

still ride sometimes, occasionally hit a trail but it isnt the same as back then.

it really isnt as hard as it seems. when i rode i would hit a wall at about 40 miles. once i made it past that there is a trance like state that stays with ya till the last 12 or so cos you know a cold drink is waiting past the finish line then its like you get more energy than you knew ya had. seemed always at the end of a rally i would feel like i could do it again right away.. then after sitting down for a few minutes i change my mind of course.

When I was in better shape last summer, I would hit the wall at about 70 miles, depending on how much climbing was involved. If I took a shot at it this summer, in my lousy condition, it would be more like 50.

The problem I have is that after all that pedalling, my feet hurt.

You need some different shoes, then!

Have a little issue with the arch on the left foot. Will overcompensate with the right. Plus at it's worst, I was riding with those tiny SPD 505s. I've since gotten pedals with larger foot support.

I do need new shoes though. Mine are nasty looking.

I did a 50 mile tour de cure without clip petals. since I could only push down and not pull up on the back half of the rotation... does that count as 100 if i'da had clip petals?

Is THAT what those things are for?

We've done a couple centuries on our tandem, but haven't done any since our son was born (he just turned 8 ). Maybe we'll get a triplet someday and do a century with the whole family! Here's how we looked about three years ago...
