Let's see the racks that you use to get your bikes from home to your campsite on your teardrop? I am in the planning stages of my build and looking for some new ideas maybe. I already have a design in my head but want to see some of the other ideas out there. I must mention I will have 2 26" bikes both with small gas engines mounted on them.

has anyone used a hitch mounted bike rack?

there's one at northern tool that has a "pass thru" hitch:

This is the type of rack that I use for my motorbike . It can handle 90 lbs . I only haul one motorbike at a time with it . The rack will adjust to fit just about any car , truck or van . It will even fit over my spoiler . The rubber sponge pads will wear the paint surface eventually . I was able to buff this out . This seems to be the only flaw with this type of rack . I have hauled my bike all over the province using this rack . Lifting a motorbike on to the rack is not too difficult . Lifting it on to a roof rack would be a real problem . ..... D.J.

I have the Saris Thelma-2, but I don't own a teardrop. We bought this hitch mounted rack, because it uses the tires to support the bike, rather than using the frame. The wife has a comfort bike, with an open frame, and it would not work on a normal frame rack without being at wierd angles while traveling, so we bought that. We have had it for a few years and it works great. I am sure it will work on the back of a TD, as long as you have a hitch mount on the back.

Very easy to use, and can fold up, if not carrying bikes also.

We got a Yakima rack, one that the tires rest on, not hanging by the frame. Also, the women's bike would make it hang funny on a frame rack. We got a hitch at the build from CampInn. This makes for an easy to load and pull bike setup.

I have a double hitch I made on the truck. and a clamp-on bike rack. Makes so I can get it closer to the truck. Have some pics in my album, I think on page 2.

I welded a piece of angle iron on my bike rack to hold this clearance/stop/turn signal LED light. :D Danny

I picked it up on ebay. Nice thing about it ,is I can move it closer to the truck if we are pulling the tear. I think with shipping and everything it was under $40 but not sure. If I am not pulling, I can move it back some and get into the back of the truck. Just makes it nice to be able to use it on anything that has a hitch. Even works on Janny's Jeep with the spare on the back. Erv

FYI - depending on the attitude of the officer that pulls you over, those Bike racks tend to block your tail lights - at least that's what the office told me why he pulled me over on night when I had two bikes on the rack. I got a warning. Image

I mostly have them on the truck when I have the tear behind me. But now that we went with the cruisers, they are a little longer frame and the truck lights work out pretty good any way. But you do have a point about the lights. The light that Dan put on his bike rack makes a lot of sense, going to look into that even with the tear on it might help if someone is next to you. Now if Dan can tell us where he picked it up???

This seller usually has more than one listing for the light bar. :D Danny
