There have been a few incedents though...Lance got knocked off his bike a number of years ago...got his Handle bars caught in a womens purse strap, I think, and Thor hit a camera ( or something else) in a sprint at the end of one stage.

It takes a little getting used to.... :?

those were accidents. at times the fans.. actually try to hinder.. Instead of pouring water over a suffering racer.. they use vinegar. Eddy Merckx was once punched severely in the kidney.. hampering his race.

I too love the French country side but I also love the racing. Three times, 10 or more years ago I tried citizen racing. It was the hardest thing I have ever tried. While watching the tour I have seen many motor homes, many tents but not one teardrop. That would be one great place for a gathering. Isn't it fun to dream?. Oh well, thanks for hdtv and a dvr.

Good to see Radio Shack in there. I hope Floyd Landis is lying, because I would hate to find out that Lance actually did cheat.

Except maybe not! Sounds like it could go either way.

Sports is in a real quandary. No one is above suspicion; it is just assumed they all dope, but some are better at hiding it. I pray we can get past this some day. :worship:

I agree, although I always hope there are many truly clean riders. It was so exciting to watch Contador and Schleck dueling it out in this year's Tour; it seemed a "clean" win in every way. (Even with the Schleck dropped chain incident, I thought Contador the clear winner.) The Tour is truly the grandest of all sporting events; very disappointing to see this cloud over the sport of cycling.

On August 30th, 2007 the Onion had an article titled
Non-Doping Cyclists Finish Tour De France. Like everything Onion, it is tacky, wacky hyperbole, but it is starting to have the faintest hint of truth.

Doping in cycling is nothing new. It has been going on for not just years, but decades. Just the process changes. It is sad to see somethng like this happen, but when you look at it, the riders are being asked to do something that is almost phisically impossibe. They ride almost as much in one month, as I ride from spring to fall. They go through mountains and heat that would distroy most of us at average speeds I can only dream of. In fact, we shouldn't be surprised that they are cheating. As far as Lance goes, I always wonder what it is about the American sports, that we build our hero's up, just so we can tear them apart when they are done. Whether he cheated or not, who knows. However, he never got caught cheating. He never had a proven positive drug test. I will always admire him because he never let cancer beat him, and that says a lot.

I'm a big Lance fan, too.

I got the privilege of driving Bob Roll and Steve Larson around in 1995 or 1996 when both competed in the Redlands Classic, Redlands, California. The bike shop I hung around was a major sponsor, and the owner, Craig (I can't remember his last name) was a friend of Bob Roll. Stewve is gone now, heart attack at 39. Bob Roll is still color guy on the Tour.

I have a jersey I was wearing that day that I talked Juli Furtado into signing. :-)
