Quilting Bee anyone?

This is where the gals can have their very own discussions...

Man o man. I've got to get back to the machine. I've been sidetracked by working on the VWs while the weather stays mild. Before I die, I WILL have a leakproof bus.

Wonderful projects from everyone. Anyone do Little Dresses for Africa?

Martha. what's the background on the names Imani and Thiago?
Love the 9 patch. I'm collecting fabrics for one based on a picture in the Keepsake catalogue.

I assume you mean me (Debbie) since those are my grandkids :R

Imani (pronounced ee mah nee) is Swahili for Faith. Thiago is the Portuguese version of James, but he was named after his uncle Thiago (pronounced Tee ah go). My son in law is from Brazil, where the native language is Portuguese. My Stepdaughter and son-in-law just like the name Imani and its meaning.

Just finished puppy quilt for soon-to-be-born grandson. Bear quilt was made a couple of months ago for new grandnephew.

I think it's been over 20 years since I made a quilt. I forgot enough that I screwed up and ended up having to change my design from Irish Chain to Rail Fence. Got a little too rotary cutter happy. Oops! And my rail fence blocks were 1/2 inch too small so I ended up cutting down all the solid and print squares. :? But I think it turned out OK. Made pillow cases to match using the inside out method from directions that I found online. That was fun and fast!
I assembled the top, made a quilt sandwich using batting and a sheet for backing fabric. Then I had a friend do the quilting for me on her long-arm machine because I just HAVE to get my bookwork done here at the shop :frustrated: ! Then spent last evening sewing the border down by hand.
NOW, all I have to do is finish the teardrop so I can display it in its proper place. :D
Hope you like it...two winters in the making.

Very nice. Nothing wrong with a pretty rail fence. It will look great in the tear. I finished my teardrop quilt before we finished the tear too.

Thanks Debbie. Your gorgeous quilts were some of the impetus for me to put one in my teardrop. They're beautiful!

I showed mine to No. 3 Son and he dropped a BIG hint that he'd like one. Maybe next winter. I just HAVE to get the books done....AND the teardrop. ;)

Take care,
Lil M.

All these quilts are so wonderful! Any suggestions as to how to learn how to quilt? I have basic sewing skills and a sewing machine. One of my goals for the teardrop, or at least what I dreamed of before I got it, was to make a quilt, pillows and curtains. All of your quilts are so nice and I'd really like to learn. Thanks!

Hit up a local independent fabric store. Most have some type of class schedule and there is almost always a beginning class. Another option...Pick up Alex Anderson's start quilting book by C&T publishing. That will teach you just about everything you need to get going. Doug

Thank you Doug! I will check out that book. To my chagrin I haven't found any local classes that fit a working mom's schedule. I love your quilts with the more contemporary style. Cheers!
