Where's a good camping location in Indiana?

Postby indymcmc » Fri Apr 10, 2009 4:53 pm

Recently purchased my first camper - a teardrop - and I'm looking for a safe, close, hopefully scenic location to try it out. Not too far from central Indiana. Pull-through sites would be great until I learn to back up. Any recommendations? Thanks.
Martha.

Hey Martha,

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new teardrop! :applause:

There is a gathering in mid May at Raccoon Rn State Park Campground just NW of Indy. Here's the link. You might want to also register over at www.Tearjerkers.net, they are more about camping than building.

I'm sure Scott and Kurt, the Tearjerkers Directors for your area will chime in soon.

Again, welcome....

Welcome Martha, The "link" that Mark posted is a summary of the Raccoon Lake gathering.

Look it over and let us know if there are questions.

We'd love to have you come to the gathering. :applause:

Yes Welcome Martha, always nice to have a fellow Hoosier.
You should for sure join us at Raccoon Lake not far from Indy and would be a great way to meet a bunch of people with like interest.

May 15-17, the link will give you all the info you need on the gathering and then some

Look forward to meeting you at a future gathering.

Martha, the safest place to camp alone is with friends. It is rare when a camper has a problem at a group gathering. We take care of each other.

Aside from that you might look up some private, well patrolled campgrounds. Oh and Image to the playground.

Martha:

The good thing about teardrops is that you can always unhook and push them into a campsite. I went up to an empty school parking lot on a weekend and practiced my backing and it really helped.

I mainly camp alone (other than my 2 dogs), and I usually stay in state parks or more popular/populated campgrounds. Just pay attention to your surroundings and to your spidey sense. I do carry pepper spray, and have a concealed carry permit, but have never taken my gun camping with me....yet.

Post some pics of your teardrop so we can see it.
