Summer toys!

Postby Miriam C. » Fri Jun 18, 2010 4:10 pm

I finally went shopping and bought a cheap fishing kayak. This is Pelican's 11' 6". It has some issues. It likes to let water into the seat and keep it there..... and isn't as good in the wind as an enclosed cockpit. The other is my granddaughter in her 10' Pursuit. Boy is it fun and fast...

 yes Mandy! This is the one. :D The little one was only $199 and really is fun. The fishing kayak is pretty efficient and getting wet was a good thing.. It is getting hot here.......

Come on girls post your toys so we can all get some good ideas.

Miriam, I bought a Coleman Cobalt, pop up for our trip to Montana-leaving next weekend. Kids are happy because we will all be in one unit. It is the smallest pop up coleman makes. Let me see if I can post a pic.

Carry a sponge. You sponge up the water after you get in the boat. A regular one will do, or you can buy one made for this purpose called a Bilge Sponge.

If you are paddling with people who are Seinfeld fans, and they need to borrow your sponge, you may ask them if they are Spongeworthy.

My new toy for the summer would have to be the Little Guy which I bought in Feb. After 3 trips, I think I have it fitted out just right. Except I need a box on the front.

Next purchase? Kayak racks for the pickup so the kayak can go with the teardrop. Maybe after the next paycheck.

I have a 13 foot canoe I have had since 1977, my Little Guy 4 wide which I am takng out on its maiden voyage in a 3 weeks. Then my Beetle which will be my tow vehicle. All three fit in our one car garage while my husbands truck sits outside, it doesn't even fit in the garage empty.
I call our gargage my toy box. :)

Love the Cobalt

Postby T@Baker » Mon Jun 28, 2010 11:21 am

We looked at Cobalts! Really liked them. We don't have a garage or any area to "dry" the pop-up if it gets wet so we didn't go that route. I think they're cool.

I bought a cheap inflatable kayak several years ago. Some day I'll get a real one. 8)

This one does get me out on the water, though.

Thanks Doris. I like the looks of those campers. My Subaru could pull one of those.

I wonder if a Chevy Cobalt can tow one.

We just got back from a 6,000 mile three week trip. The Coleman pop-up did great going into a flooded campground in Minneapolis, over dirt roads in many national parks and over many miles of bumpy highway expansion joints. It was easy to put up and down, and it sleeps the whole family.
