space saving furniture

Postby bobhenry » Tue Oct 25, 2011 6:43 am

Getting my thoughts together about living in less than 200 sq ft has me investigating space saving furniture. There are some that totally boggle the mind in how they make the transformation. Here are some that I found.....

I love it all! I've been trying to talk my husband into letting me build a tiny house on wheels, but he's pretty reluctant. I love all the space-saving furniture though!

I really like this ........Image

Frequently used place setting at arms reach. The table easily stored. I am setting here scratching my head trying to figure how to mount and wire the flat screen so it will be handy in the closed position.

Bob,

Since the shelves aren't accessible until the table folds down anyway...

Have a larger side hinged [appropriate strength] door as the outside face/cover of the
center cabinet [that you could mount a flat screen TV on] from which, behind it the
table folds down as shown in your pic.

-Or-

Mount a track on the ceiling flush against the top cabinet(s) face frame rail
and suspend a panel or a two side armed frame of some sort that'd support
a flat screen TV mounting bracket. Just slide it aside to fold down the table
and slide it back to the center again to the center position [that seems to me
where you indicated it'd be.] when done to use that way.

Just a couple of fast ideas on it...

Cheers,
Norm/mezmo

P.S.

Make sure the lower center "door" panel has a frame within the lower "door" frame
for a side opening door(s) so that you have access to the shelves behind it when
the table is closed up. It doesn't look like there is access in that position now
until the lower "door" panel tilts forward at its base to support the table top -
unless the lower door tilts out hinged from the bottom for access purposes when the
table is closed. If that is the case I'd think that would be awkward to use in a
smaller confined space even though it might be a little easier to build.
If you have a house - you have a hobby.

bobhenry I'm curious as to what kind of tv you'll be using for this project? Jensen has a 32inch flatscreen that runs on 12volt it's amazing http://www.jensenrvdirect.com/products/ ... d-tvs.html

If you look at it close it looks like the bottom drop down door laps over the top door almost 8" so you could drop it to the floor to access the lower storage shelves with the upper cabinet still shut. I was mentally trying to place a smaller flat screen on what would be the face of the upper door ( when dropped it would be under the table ) . What was confusing me was how to route the necessary wires to do that.

I now have a small craig that is 12 volt . I was also given two 13" tube type magnavox tv's that are 12 volt dc and 120 volt AC. There is a little switch in the back that toggles them from AC to DC. They were removed from a friends motor home to update to flat screens.

I like free ;)
