Bob, your idea of a white 1x4 for better trim definition sounds like it might work well.

I am thinking it looks a lot like a covered car carrier railroad car.

It will be setting about 30 feet behind and off to the side of the caboose so it may appear as a transport car on a distant set of tracks. Since the scale is off a bit having it at a distance should add to the illusion.

Weather permitting the caboose and the utility trailer ???? I gotta get a better name for this off grid center trailer)

The power wagon ? the volts wagon ? the water wagon ?

Anyway back to my original thought... Weather permitting the caboose and the rolling power shed will both be blocked and leveled on Sunday and I will attempt to mow the jungle. I figure the sooner they are up on piers the less attractive they will be to possible theft.

You're right! It does look a lot like a car carrier!

I still think it is a Utility Unit (trailer) because it is going to house your utilities (water, electric...).
But, I understand that you want a cuter name that will give chuckles to people.
Coming up with a name could be fun for people.

- Carry Car (Because it carries your water, batteries and anything that doesn't fit in the caboose.)
- Wonder Wagon (Because people will wonder what's in it and it will be a wonderful thing when you have utilities.)
- Caboose Juice Wagon or Caboose Juicer (Both water and electricity are sometimes called "juice".)

...Other ideas? Let's see who is reading your caboose thread and who comes up with names.

Lol 1vote for karens idea about the malfunction junction lol but in all seriousness I think something that shows the amount of trouble much less the effort it took to build it but wow it has been quite the read from page one to the end, but im so glad I did,

"MALFUNCTION JUNCTION " :rofl2:

I love it !

I dropped off 25 concrete block at lunch today. Borrowed two 4 ton bottle jacks to level the caboose. I thought it would be getting leveled tonight but my sister called and she has found a super cheap LP gas stove for the house in a house so I guess I had better get it locked down tonight and level tomorrow. I did unlock the back door to the caboose and check on the transport damage. Found a few CD's had jumped out of one of the cabinets, and the vibration shook a cabinet door off of the hinges.

With the aid of a Phillips screwdriver in 30 seconds all was fixed as good as before.

RE: The Trim, if you aren't going to use the dentil molding -
unless you get it pre-made it'd be a time consuming pain to do -
I have always found the doing a three piece built-up molding profile always
comes out looking very nice. Use a 1x4 as the base, then a 1x3 on
top of of that and then a 1x2 on top of that. The shadow lines just
look "right". Apply the 1x4 flat against the wall, with the 1x edge snugged
up against the overhanging roof decking, and apply the remaining 1x3
flat against the 1x4, its top edge snugged up against the overhanging
roof deck, and then the 1x2 on top of the 1x3 as the others were applied.
It's a simple built-up molding profile, but it looks really nice.

I was given 3-4 16 foot sticks of the dental molding. It is up now I was just not happy with the presentation.

I need a gate and to extend a fence to dissuade visitors and to get the unit level first then making it pretty is next. I have a camping buddy willing to come down and weld the fancy rails onto the observation platform. On the way into work today I remembered the roof walk boards I want to install. I NEED CUTE! to keep it in favor with the public when push comes to shove with the zoning folks.

I forgot to mention I was given 2 dozen concrete blocks Sunday ! I dropped them off at the property at lunch yesterday. They will be used to pier up the caboose to get the it setting level. That will make it less attractive to someone who right now could simply hook up and drive away with it.

Hey the caboose is almost level. At least it is up on piers so it won't just roll away. I took an early out at work
yesterday ( Tues.) and spent an hour and a half leveling the unit. While it is not perfect it is close to level. I was lifting so hard the 4 ton bottle jack was crushing the main frame rail so I stopped until I could borrow an automotive floor jack to assist.

I've been busy building my trailer, and I lost track of this thread. Wonderful to see how much progress you've made this spring, Bob! Best wishes on your new place...

The 4 ton bottle jack I was using to level the caboose was crushing the boxed tube frame so I stopped leveling mid week.
While delivering the old magic chef stove to a buddy's house I noticed he had a nice floor jack and asked to borrow it.

Early in the cool of the morning Saturday I used it to continue leveling the caboose and building up the leveling piers.
I am happy to report in about 45 minutes it was leveled. All is now pool table flat and level.

Next thing is to get it strapped down. With all the storms that seem to go through that area, you sure don't want it blowing over. Do they have a "WA"........workers annonymous?????? If so, you need to join it. If not, maybe you could start a local group. :D Just kidding but it seems your work is never ending.

Was out in the drizzle last evening finishing up the pole barn trusses. They are now ready to hoist up and install. If only my long length special order lumber would arrive

But they say hard work keeps your mind off of a broken heart :NC
