Well I suppose celery green isn't a bad color. It worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad.

Image

It was needing another coat of paint anyway.

Went to the Zoning folks today at 9 am. I am but a serf to my local government. :NC

By the time they got thru with the gotta haves and moved on to the list of 9 variances I need to get passed my head was swimming. :?

Signatures are required from the Health Department. the County Surveyor, and the county highway. The good news was the building inspector flat told the zoning folks he had no part in the matter since it is viewed as an RV. That is one less speed bump in the path.

It is ironic that the one man I feared the most has made a soft and subtle about face and is doing what he can to actually help me to get this variance request thru. This is the same man who last year essentially told me I had a snowballs chance in hell and he was firmly against it. He was pulling page after page of tiny house info he had printed from off the web to show me suggested exterior treatments other than red. I am almost ready to buy 2 gallon of tan and a dark brown and wood grain the exterior with a graining tool.

Red, especially a poppy-orange red makes some people see red. It tends to rile up those people, just like it does bulls.

Burlington's "asylum green" is a very soothing color.
Maybe it will soothe some of the city officials and any complaining neighbors a bit.
Green and white is a nice color combination and should look really nice on your caboose.

Well sounds like one small victory if he seems more helpful.

That is pretty, Bob. Did you get any new ideas from it? Except to not use a retired real caboose with the bottom carriage assembly attached!

Well it seems we forgot Ben

Yep yet another signature to acquire.

This time the Clinton County soil and water conservation District office need to rubber stamp my project.

Ben is the residential construction specialist. Construction ? " We ain't constructing nuttin"

I may need a parking permit but we are not constructing a thing.

I don't know if they just forgot this one or if it is a series of tactics to get me to jump thru more hoops.

I have the rest of my life so we can play games till the cows come home if necessary. The Caboose is home and it will stay. It remains to be seen if they will let me live there though. I have a ton of projects to get done before winter so I hope I get a green light soon.

Well I have gotten Ben's signature. My property is not a declared wet land and not a single water fowl will be upset.

Ben's signature has been delivered to the zoning folk as of 5 minutes ago.

Makes me wonder what's next.

I seem to remember having to post a sign announcing the yet to be determined date of the hearing regarding the variance. I am sure they will call with something.

Well my sign is done and ready for pickup. It is to nofify all that there will be a zoning meeting at which the variance will be discussed regarding this property.

Hell it's a slow news day maybe I can get a picture :laughter:
UPDATE :
OK The battle lines are drawn I have 25 days until the meeting where written and verbal views will be aired.

I NEED LOTS OF HELP !!!!!

I am in hopes I can get several of you to offer written support for the tiny house movement. Without a overwhelming presence it would appear I will be moving the tiny house. I will run the gambit and take it to the states attorney general and file any and all appeals I can, but the end result may be fines and any other creative punishment they can dish out if removal is not complied with after all other avenues have been exhausted.

I am hoping a flood of letters in support will help them understand there is more to the tiny house movement than one lone nut case trying to live in a shoebox.

I am hoping I can count on my friends here to help flood their office with positive input.

Thanks Bob Henry

Do we need to live in that area to send a letter? I'm just west of Chicago.

Well I have the instructions on where and when the sign is to be displayed. I have 3 certified letters to send to the neighboring property owners. One is the state ( looks like they held out on part of my land ) the other an LLC leasing the farm ground and the 3rd a gal in Virginia who apparently owns the other cornfield. Like they are going to care about a one unit campground coming into their midst. Meeting is the 26th of this month. I am hurrying to get another mowing in so the property will look even better and thinking about adding a sign of my own...

Tiny house homestead OR weed patch ???

just a nudge to prove a point that the ground should be placed back on the tax rolls and not left fallow.
