In particular: http://www.lot-ek.com/MDU-Mobile-Dwelling-Unit A shipping container contained house that uses slide outs to increase the effective space.

But I haven't checked out the whole site yet. Not all designs are based on shipping containers, but some are. A couple mobile retail spaces built into shipping containers.

A single, and some multi container homes.

Some shipping container homes in this tiny home set. Also some other oddities like the billboard one.

The shipping container is a great recycling use. I've read that the containers go one way and get scrapped or just piled up. They could help aleviate the homeless situation.

They are used until they can't be anymore, the biggest thing that kills them is rust. I've seen many that were 10 years old or more still in use. But when they're done, they do make a dandy quick structure for an affordable price.

I wonder why I read they were piling up? Maybe we are importing faster than exporting.

That's a very interesting question.

My parents bought one for a storage building on the farm. Cheaper than renting the mini storage unit in the long run.
