Will you have room to open it and leave it open? That's the sort of thing that interferes with my tiny house designs(in my head)

maybe this will help............

Image

new door assembly is in red.

The little 45 degee cabinet is out of the way enough that the door can remain open if I wish.

Image

Update 1/5/16 Got the new wall insulated (kinda) above the opening over the new doorway.

Image

The living room is now completely separated from the rest of the house in a house. It was so nice last night the little wall mounted heater brought the temp up in no time and it was really comfortable despite the 14 degrees outside. It's the first really cold night in 17 months that the inside temp has really been comfortable it was such a luxury.

Well single digit temps have arrived ! :snowstorm:

Had two of the employees call in with household emergencies this morning. Frozen pipes and spraying water

It is comforting to know that at this time, neither the house in a house nor the caboose have running water. I was shocked that while I was gone all weekend the house in a house stayed 40+ degrees despite the fact that the outside temps had plummeted to teens and single digits and I had NO heat on . I do have about eight 24 packs of water in the cabinets and they were not frozen. I had invisioned the cabinets flooded with partially frozen plastic bottles leaking in the nice wood cabinets. So I guess there is something to be said for carry in water ! :D

Not being real good with tight curves I thought about a phone booth sized box hinged at the wall and split to open diagonally . I learned this morning that leaky larry will freeze. ( -1 and -14 wind chill )

I went to make a liquid deposit and the funnel did not drain down. Perhaps a 60 watt old school light bulb added in the "phone booth" would help to warm the in house out house.

An excellent idea...one that uses an incandescent light bulb, not an LED. They use those in pump houses to keep the pump's pipes from freezing. Then, you'd also have a light to read by!

Oh Oh Oh I gotta tell you...... A propane wall mounted heater make a great food warmer. Being the consumant batchelor I chose to get a prepared dinner from a little diner I frequent for lunch. It was 3:30 and I stopped in and asked if they had any lunch specials left (Baked spagetti with garlic bread ) . I took it home in its little aluminum pan and left it for later for dinner. Well standing at the microwave and stareing at the aluminum pan I thought, now what? Them it hit me I sat it on the top shelf of the propane wall heater. I gave it about 1/2 hour turning it a couple times to get it evenly in the heat stream that waffs from the front of the heater and yes it was good an warm and delicious.

You didn't realize when you bought that heater just how multi-functional it would be!!! Glad you didn't set a plastic container on it
