Adam & Lisas Tiny house build

Postby camaro2813 » Wed Oct 01, 2014 11:14 pm

Hi everyone,

My wife and I are building a tiny house to stay in on weekends. we are going off a plan set that we had gotten, and are loosely interpreting it.

I picked up the trailer from the manufacturer on September 18. As of today I have both end walls DONE. I also have a fully built and insulated subfloor. We ended up using hi density foam board, the floors are insulated to R27.5. The sidewall material was purchased today October 1. I have about half of one sidewall done. It is my hope to have 4 standing walls by the end of the weekend.

I'm waiting on photos to transfer from my phone...

Next up we had 2 layers of 2 inch R10 foam, and one layer of 1.5 inch R7.5 foam. Our floor is R27.5!

Here is a photo from today, The trailer has been fully decked with Tongue and groove Plywood, glued and screwed down. I am constructing one side wall as of now. Hopefully both shall be done this weekend. Coincidentally, this Sunday will mark exactly two weeks since we first started working on the house.

And finally, here is the rest of my evening. I finally got BOTH end walls entirely framed in. Here's hoping for 4 freestanding walls by Sunday!

Interestingly enough, that single garbage bag you see there in front of this picture is the ONLY waste generated out of this build so far. I am trying to keep a tally on how much trash we send to the landfill through this endeavor.

Damn Dude you are flying.

If you hadn't flew by it too fast I would have warned you to think about water and gas lines routed thru the joist. You have a second chance low in the walls keeping them near the heated side of your insulation. I speak from experience I have to retro back to get my water lines in and my gas line will now have to run under the frame. I wished I had thought it out farther back the trail.

Bob,

I have been mindful of utilities. Both the kitchen and bath are are one far end. Since we will be using this year round, there will just be one short plumbing run along the end wall to supply the kitchen sink and shower. My intent it to have these lines inside the kitchen cabinet for maximum freeze protection. Drainage will be cut thru floor after the fact. Gas lines will be run under the frame RV style.

Yes, we got plans from Chris and malissa tack. View their site and pictures here. Chrisandmalissa.com

Only complaints I have is their material lists are off. After buying everything the plans said for the two end walls, I'm left with a 2x4x10 and 3 2x4x8.

I erred in my previous post, we started framing on 9/15. SO, if we get the 4 walls up this weekend, that will mark 3 weeks from start. (not 2 like I had said)

I'm on a mission to get everything framed and sheathed ASAP, that way we can leisurely work on the interior throughout the winter

Yep it was a great relief to have the caboose's roof on and the unit dry as a bone before winter weather hit.

You will be amazed how warm it is inside even without heat while you are working.

The steps you have taken in the insulation department will assure easy heating and cooling for years to come.

Where are you located ?
