Monday I got busy after a goof off Sunday...

Image
Here is the insulated zip wall plowed out to allow for studs and sill recesses

Image
Got my free casement windows roughed in !

Image
Forgot that 3"'s are removed to cover the bottom plate the floor and a portion of the frame.

Image
When I installed the windows I planed them out with the studding.... OOPs
I needed to have them plane out with the new sub siding anyway. Maybe when I get the final
siding on it may need to move again . At the moment it is just 4 screws that need to be removed
and shove the window outward.

Image
After about 3 hours I was ready to give up for the day ( I had made my quota of Mistakes)
so here is where I left the project. I did patch in the goof up under the window. :D

Damn the cold full speed ahead.

Loading up the windows and doors to get roughed in this weekend. In the teens so I may be working in short spurts but I will at least make the holes and temporary them in. Want to get things weather tight then I can ignore it on bad days or work on the electric and interior things.

Kinda reminds me of something.....Image

Saturday I was able to complete the sheathing on the north side of the build around the windows. I started on the pooch out by cutting the upper plate. Now I am wondering how to place the upper plate exactly over the bottom plate without leveling the entire trailer. I think with a good tape measure and the ability to place the studs 90 degrees to the floor to help guide me I will be able to do it. The thought of crawling in 4 inches of new fallen snow to level the trailer is so not going to happen. It will not take long to stud it in once the upper plate is in place but at 20 degrees with a 3 degree wind chill I now have a new reason to hate Christmas.

Dear diary......

Well sometimes ya just get damn lucky.

Posted less than an hour and located almost in walking distance of work was 400+ feet of 6" vee grove 1x6 car siding.

Got it at 40 cents a foot maybe a little less as he tossed on some short pieces as extra.

The kicker............................wait for it ................................ It had been removed from a 1909 Nickle Plate railroad box car !!!

What are the odds ?? He even had the unit number plack off of it. It seems this ol boy disassembles and reclaims barns, old buildings, and what ever else he finds. The story he got from the farmer was that the 1918 barn was built over the decommissioned box car that had been being utilized for storage. He was recycling all the barn members and when he got to the boxcar he salvaged all the siding. It is in fantastic shape for 100 year old lumber.

Took a trip down memory lane this morning and I found a long forgotten post in the original caboose thread. Oct 23rd 2012. It showed the caboose the deck and the Depot as a shop. I had totally forgotten that there was such a thought in my mind way back then. Crazy Huh

I did take time Sat to pick up the 425' + feet of car siding. The good point of being frozen stiff with a string of 12 days of below zero weather....
I haven't paid any help lately

Well yet another find in the snow........

I went by a house in the neighborhood several times in the past few weeks and had spied a full view storm door lying about in the side yard. Yesterday I found the owner out and about with a bud lite in his hand. I pulled up in the snow packed yard and hopped out. Knowing how us beer drinkers think I pointed to his beer and asked.... " If I bring you back another 6 pack (pointing to his beer) may I have that old scrap door. He nodded yes and a few minutes later he had his 6 pack as his $6.34 payment and I was loading the storm door. God I love cheap.

Two gorgeous days in a row.... :worship:

Have the nose of the depot almost fully sheathed. The south wall is all in and the rear short wall in the back is framed and ready for more sheathing. I built two short interior walls to flank the sides of the 275 gallon water tank. I am hoping to get the rear doors built today (Sunday). These will allow access to remove the water tank if needed. I need to make the 45 minute trip

(each way :( )

to the house in a house for more 3 ft by 4 ft zip panels. This will be used to finish up a few spots where I ran out of material. I need my roof rat to get the plywood under sheathing covered and ready for the steel roofing. I would have loved to have had the steel on before the snow and rain hit but the plywood seems to have held up pretty well to the weather. I didn't get as much done Sat as I should have but I really needed to get the chicken house cleaned out and place in new bedding for the girls. While I had the tarp "sled" out , I use it to rake up all the cut offs, cut out foam scraps , and other construction debris so I could get it all cleaned up and burnt to tidy up the build site. It had been a couple weeks since I had seen the ground and it really needed cleaned up for sight and safety. Hope to take time to click off some more pictures :pictures: So I can post them Tuesday ! Well it's 2:30 am guess I had ether get rested for the morning.

Well Menard's got into my pocket....... 200 ft of 12-2 with ground an a bunch of Carlon boxes. Picked up a 268' roll of new and improved roofing underlayment. Some driver bits and an exterior door threshold plate. $192.00 later I limped out the door. Thank God I have a bunch of switches and outlets left over from here and there yard sales and the other builds. Stopped over and picked up the zip panel scrap pieces and some plywood and motored back to the farm. Spent 2 hours and got up 5 panels of the zip in areas missed. I am inching closer and closer to being dried in. Monday is picture day. Well it's dark out I had better go up the hill and shut down the egg factory for the night. Tomorrow is another day. :D

Well Goodwill finally came thru.... It has been almost a month since my camera slipped out of the seat and I backed over it later leaving. My Goodwill finally had a nice little digital camera on the shelf. It was $5.99 and it was old farts day so for $4.19 plus tax I got me a replacement camera. I decided Monday it was time to take some new pics of the Depot. Don't pay any attention to the dates in some of the photos I wasn't smart enough to reset the date.

Image
Left work Thursday and went by a local junk site listing and picked up 4 salesmans sample windows ($20.00 each) this pair will go over my shelf bed in the rear of the depot.

Image
here is where the absolutely free trash picked door in the picture above will be installed. It will empty onto a walk way to the platform (patio)

Image
here we are peeking in thru the front door to the tank and shelf bed in the back

Image
north side awaiting pooch out

Image
Southside awaiting pooch out. Notice this side is nice and dry ready for underlayment and steel. The other side still has about 1/4 inch of ice on it :x

Image
Here is where the pair of little windows will go in the top.
Bottom will have a door setup to be able to remove the tank if needed
