I didn't realize those red Colemans were in such demand. That is my original lantern, and is really quite beat up. Big nicks and dings, rusty, and generally looking like a piece of crap. It's a 200 from 1960. Don't know if it's an A or B or what. Made in Canada.

I did offer this to heikki a while ago, but he didn't seem interested at the time. I now reneg on that offer. This will give me something to do this winter.....as if I haven't got enough to do.... :?

After bustin my chops getting the Christmas decorations out of the crappy attic space...here we go! Last time I used it was about 10 years ago and I set it aside because the valve was goofed and you couldn't turn it off!!! Time to dust things off and get her restored!!! I bought another matching one off e-bay...it's in worse shape but has good bones....Oh yeah...(&(*^(^(^% ...couldn't find the old stove (yet)!

Nice 242 Dave....it'll clean up really well and they are just about bulletproof when it comes to working. Clean out the guts on it and I'll bet it runs. Doug

Here ya go Heikki....both of these lanterns have a new mica globe on them. The larger one (Quiklight) has a sliding window, in metal, that allowed you to get to the tip cleaner. The smaller lantern is a 242. This mica globe doesn't have the bulge to it like the pyrex ones do. It's a different look, makes it look older than it really is. It's a '41 lantern. They are as clear as glass, and need to be cleaned carefully, you can scratch mica with a fingernail.

I remember as a kid going up to grandpas cabin at Lake Retreat Wa. and getting in trouble for poking at the mica windows in the wood stove. Originally some of these globes sold for under 1$ ....that's not the case now...but mica certainly does give it the correct look. Now I know why grandpa got bent out of shape with me on that "poking thing". Doug

All I can say is wow. That looks awesome. I now understand why the 242 is called the "junior" lantern. It looks like a scaled down version of the Quick-lite lantern with the mica globe on it.

BTW, the boxes look great.

Thanks Jeremy...and what I can do is swap the mica globe into any 220 or 228 lantern. May not be appropriate for the age of the lantern, but it is more vintage in appearance. It'll probably end up in the '37 228 most of the time. Still don't have the parts to make the quiklight a "burner", and it's more of a hassle to run anyway. Doug

After reading these posts, I will have to dig around and see what the lanterns I have are. They probably aren't really old. I think I have a stove I picked up at an auction or rummage, too.
If I could shut my brain off, I could save myself alot of time, money and effort.
