Old Fishing Equipment

Postby Mike C. » Sat Dec 06, 2008 2:30 pm

Anyone have any old fishing rods, reels or lures? I used to have some old reels and lures that belonged to my grandfather, but at one point or another, raising a family and needing money, more than I needed them, I sold them

Got any photes???? Let's see what you have.

May bring back some good memories.

Mike...I've got my grandfathers fishing creel....the leather is in pretty tough shape. I also still fish with a early 60's Mitchell 300 reel, lost 1 in Lake Powell. Dad gave away all the bamboo fly rods however....Doug

I have a couple of fly rods that belonged to my grandfather, Both Brownings one a 1919 and the other a 1927. I had reels that went with them, but they disappeared out of my garage years ago. I still have some of his fly tying stuff and a small tin of flies and poppers.

Ive got some of the very 1st , nicely carved Rapala original lures and such. Made here in Finland before they started making them elsewhere.
From the original carver himself.

I,ll have to go did them out from the storage.

I have a bunch. My grandfather passed years ago and I had the job of cleaning out the garage and attic. I found a gold mine in the attic. I have lots of rods and reels from 1900 and before. Some of them were my great grandfathers. I also found some tackle boxes that were fully stocked. Old lures still in the package. hooks still on the card and spools of dacron string.
I have several decorating my living room. I love them and it fits great living on a lake. I'll get some pic's.

Mike....here's what I have without doing a major excavation in the attic. Somewhere I've got all my old salt water stuff from Alaska, didn't really need it in Co. but I did save it. Here's grandpas creel and minnow bucket, the little aluminum leader box was stuffed full of flies that he had tied. I've had it since he died 40 years ago, dunno exactly how old it is. Doug

Thanks for the effort Doug. Attic mining can be a lot of work, but it usually is very productive. Plus, and I don't know if you feel this way, but when I see something that I know one of my long deceased relatives used to own, I am transported back in time. I remember a fishing trip or just having them call me a lunkhead, for falling in the lake. But most attic finds, including pictures, evoke very strong, mostly good memories for me. That is why, this sub-forum, will probably turn out to be one of my favorites.
