Heikki....read that PDF file on it I sent, courtesy of Jeremy, do it outside. Preburn your mantles it's not done in that pic, Don't flip out if it flares up, if the first flames are in your opinion too big, shut down the valve, let it burn off some fuel and then crack the valve open again when it calms down. You may want to consider removing the top and the globe so it is easier to light since you haven't lit one up before. Light a match, and have it on the mantles, crack the valve, Listen to it hiss, you can hear a change in the sound when the fuel hits the mantles. If someone else has a different idea on a first timer lighting a lantern please do chime in. Just wanting Heikki to have a safe first lighting! Doug

Like Doug said, follow the instructions and do it out side. Make sure the generator nut is tight. Make sure you do not light it where you fill it up with fuel. Make sure the tip cleaner is down before you light it. Have your match lit before you open the valve an only open it a 1/4 turn. . It may take several tries to get it to light the first time.

It will flare up. You will have flames for about 30 seconds. Spin the tip cleaner a couple times after it lights. Then it should settle down. Make sure the tip cleaner lever is down after you spin it.

Have fun & be safe.
