Fuels n Info.

Here is our fuel for Petromax or Coleman Lanterns.

And it doesnt have to be Coleman Fuel Brand. Also if anyone mentions Nafta - That is a name for Diesel fuel here. Thats is definitely not for Lanterns or Stoves. The name is Valo Petroli by Neste Oy. One of the top Fuel Providers.

Wonder what that is in the background glowing.

What you have picture is not the correct fuel for you lantern.

Valo petroli = Kerosene

You need White gas or:
Kevytbensiini
Puhdistusbensiini

Hi Jeremy

Not according to the people at Neste.

. Translation:

White gas is very difficult to find in Finland or Rarely found in Finland as the people at Neste say. Kerosene is different than what this is.

Running that fuel in you lantern will ruin it.

Please refer to the chart on this web page. You need the fuel listed in the white gas column.

Can you send me you email address so I can put you in touch with a Coleman collector that can help you find the correct fuel?

This is also on the info:

Finland

<[email protected]> writes.......(Dec 1993)

Valopetroli, bensiini and sprii are generic names, Sinol and Marinol are brand names, but also in common use.

<[email protected]> writes........(Dec 1993)

White Gas (kevytbensiini) is apparently very hard to find (maybe because nobody uses it here). According to manufacturer's info Sinol(tm) is for unpressurized stoves (Trangia etc.) while Marinol(tm) is for pressurized stoves (Optimus? never seen one), but in practice they should be interchangeable.

<[email protected]> writes....(Oct 1998)

Besides the listed choices, "Lampyoljy" (lamp oil) has always worked fine for me. It's a clean kerosene, generally dyed blue or some other color. The very best and cleanest is Shell Erikois Valopetroli, but the other stuff works just fine.

You have to look far and wide to get "Coleman Fuel" in Finland, but much to my surprise, it is available at the Shell shop in Kilpisjärvi, a few km up the road from where the Kalottireitti comes out, just near the Retkeilykeskus. It's in little barely marked suspicious looking square tin bottles.

Both Shell and Neste told us the same thing here.

I sent him an email. His name is Doug. ( not Doug Hodder)

Did it smoke a lot and take a while for the lantern to light or did it flare up and light right away?

Petromax lanterns are kerosene lanterns. The reason it would say Coleman is that Coleman made both kerosene and white gas lanterns. The fuel is not interchangeable.

Ok Jeremy. It did not flare up and light right away. And it also did not smoke much at all. After I pumped it in my opinion it took about a max of 2 sec.

Sinol(tm). Marinol(tm). is another one that we have here.

The other bottle that Neste and Shell had was a form of Alcohol and Im sure that was not it.

Also there is a cleaning gas or puhdistus bensa that is sold in the pharmacy and Im still not convinced that is one.

ps. This gentleman you mention does he speak Finnish or what? And is he familiar with our newest fuels in Finland?

Look for these products:
Kevytbensiini
Puhdistusbensiini

He told me he could give you lighting instructions in Finnish if you need them. I am assuming that means he can speak Finnish.

Did you look at the web site I posted above?

Yup I did. Ohh Jeremy I dont have any problem with understanding them directions that I was given. The entire thing is getting the correct fuel.

Also I know where I can get a product named Power Fuel which is very clean and burns nicely as one of my friends here suggested. This is a Primus Brand Product. Is this the same do you think?

Also I will call one of the guys here in Finland in the afternoon to see what he uses in his Coleman. Its not a new type though. Or Model.

Jeremy thank you for your help.

Se on ns. White Gas ainetta.

Power Fuel in 2.5 Litre canisters with a childproof locking cork.
It is as stated White Gas.

This is Primus Power Fuel. I called to the Primus Office in Sweden. ;)

Ok I took the number 9 shovel and dug a little Deeper.

The special gas which in the USA is called White Gas or Colemand Fuel is equivalent here to this:

erikoisbensiini 80-110 (finnish), specialbensin 80-110, (swedish)

Known as 80-110 I have now found this at 2 different companies here.
Also it is found at the local pharmacies..above all places.

Here is an updated sheet for the different types of fuels. This info is up to date on it.

http://www.elisanet.fi/lightbringer/fuel.html

Gas Stations do not carry this anymore since 5 years ago the EU came up with regulations on this type of fuels. Dont ask me why but this is what we have found out.
