My new - Old 1940

Well looks like the sisters, meaning the wife and her sister came through on the start of a nice collection of oldies Lanterns from this side of the pond. Belonged to their parents at one point n time.

An original 1940 Original PETROMAX 826 Lantern.

Heikki....those mantels I sent you will fit the Petromax....you don't need to change one every time you light up...only if it gets torn or damaged. If it's whole, it'll fire up. Doug

Also if you notice on the tank closely the surface has a sort of bubbling on it. Dont know what the tank is made of. Is it nickel or somthing under it.

Do I dare even to start trying to polish or?

Given the age....I'd make sure you took care of that globe, nice copy etched into it. Don't know if they are available anymore. It's a really nice one. The tank may be nickel over brass, don't know for sure, but check it with a magnet. It's entirely possible that it's chrome over steel, doubtful though. I polish them with a cloth wheel and some polish and water on the drill press. Your best bet might to be to just do a light clean up and polish on the tank and not try to make it look like new. I don't think that will happen on this one...and there's nothing wrong with showing some age.

I don't know for SURE if it's the correct mantle chances are it's not exactly what was used, but unless it's a really different sized mantel, those should work. Either way, you'll probably get it to work using those. There are larger ones available...the 99's. Doug
