This one is just visiting... (updated)

This is a June 1951 Model 200 that belongs to a friend of mine. This was his Grandpa's & then Dad's lantern. My friend inherited a few years back. He asked me if I can make it work again. I plan in doing a full restoration on it for him. (BTW, yes the red vent & green fount are correct for this lantern. These are often referred to as Christmas lanterns.)

Looks like an easy fix... What's the condition of the ventilator? If damaged, that's the hard part to find....( I was lucky).

The vent is in good shape, it is the rest that needs work. I belive it has red lamp oil in the tank. It does not smell like fuel, it has a sweat smell.

Also, this is a 200A, not a 200. The "A" stamped on the collar is real faint.

I got this lantern apart today. What a mess. I have cleaned the vent & globe. The brass is soaking & the steel will be getting blasted this week.

The vent is almost perfect, just 2 small chips.

Jeremy....here is my visitor, maybe staying for 2 weeks. Her birthday is July 51. She will get a strip on the fount and repaint, bead blast on the frame and rest, polish up and any new parts that she needs. Doug

Almost done. I will pressure test it tonight. Then put some fuel in it tomorrow night & fire it up. I will give it back Friday.

I don't know what Jeremy used, but I use 0000 steel wool and some liquid dish detergent, not a brillo pad. Cleans them up really well....don't bear down on the wool and try to "scour". Also...I found that a coarse scotchbrite pad will scratch the porcelain, just my experience however. User beware. Doug
