Coleman 9H Stove - Closing bid $585.00

Postby PresTx82 » Wed Mar 25, 2009 11:44 am

I bid on this yesterday or the day before, and look how much it went for:

I couldn't believe it. Maybe the gold gas tank is solid GOLD!

What is the highest amount anyone has seen paid for a basic type stove (not rare) on Ebay?

$585.00 is more than I just paid for a nice pistol and some extras.

I have see a 1972 413G Goldbond sell for more than $1000. I have seen a mint 425B sell for $600.

I haven't been collecting long enough to know what is so special about that stove. Any ideas?

It doesn't matter your nationality. I was wondering what about this model makes it worthy?

I dunno...maybe just condition. Maybe the person needed that stove to round out his collection and was willing to pay for it. It would be nice to have some idea on what the production numbers were on some of these things.

Over on the Coleman forum, some of the stove people had never seen or heard of the one that I have, but I know they did exist, I got the manual for it and the stove to boot! Doug

Look closely at the close up of the decal...
The seller boasted about it, that it wasn't even starting to peel yet.
Looks like a replacement decal to me... I see two small areas where the decal has small air pockets under it, like where it didn't get applied correctly.
There is no way it would stay intact for so many years like that.
Just my opinion of course...

Based on the over all condition of the stove. I think it's the real deal. I just don't see how a new decal could be placed that perfectly without some ghosting on the paint appearing from the original. Those old water slide decals don't come off all that easy on paint, and I'd think the front would show some efforts from removing it if it were replaced. I dunno though Dean...you might be right. The following pic is on my 417B...note it's crooked to begin with and there is no way that was a replacement as I stripped it off and could see what was underneath...it's in great shape for the age a 1940. Maybe I got hosed on it and it was new, don't think so...but it was only a 10$ stove.

What's interesting is that the info that Jeremy posted earlier on the Coleman catalogs is that the 9H isn't even listed, but I would assume that it was after the G...making it between 35-38. They don't list the 2E either, that black one I got from Dennis. In talking to some of the Coleman guys, they said it's not uncommon to run into a stove that isn't listed. I was told that some of the old timers that worked at the plant see stoves that they didn't know were produced. At any rate...that stove is way out of my league. Doug

Maybe the stoves were built for different regions maybe? Perhaps some of them were built for Canada, and wouldn't be listed for the U.S. market.... just a thought.... :thinking
