Are Sears lanterns made by Coleman?

Postby WarPony » Thu Apr 09, 2009 3:49 pm

I bought a Sears lantern on Ebay this week and wondered if the parts will be the same as a Coleman. They look pretty close but I can't find any info on the Sears stuff. It was made in 1969 and the same month I was born so I HAD to have it!!

Well: Coleman made lanterns for several companies back then, including Sears. A couple of decent websites that *might* help put you on the right track:

http://www.colemancollectorsclub.com/tech_models.htm

and

http://www.oldtownyucca.com/coleman/

In fact: If you're a fan of old Coleman products, and you make it down to Wichita, you might want to stop by the Coleman Factory Outlet Store & Museum in person (if you haven't done so already).

Can you post a picture? Some were made by Coleman, JC Higgins or Thermos.

The red / black and blue / black and olive are Coleman.

The all metalic blue are JC Higgins.

I have the Coleman / Sears parts list.

Here you go Jeff. See page 31. It has the Coleman parts # listed. Also if you go to the Sears parts website you can put the lantern model # in & get the Sears parts # also. Yours is almost the same as a 220F except for the tank & vent. Most of the other parts should fit.

No go, bro. I tried putting in the lantern model and didn't get anything so I'll just use the parts that I got for my 228 and get this one up in shape.

I think there's spider webs in the air tube, I put some new mantles and fuel in and all I got was a big ball of flames coming out of the top. Time for a tear down and a cleaning...........

Yeah, I looked at the Sears link that Jeremy sent and the sub numbers seem to be Coleman.............. at twice or three times the price of Old Town Yucca's!!!!

As a side note, I took the air tube ass'y apart this afternoon and found it plugged with spider webs. Cleaned it out, burned in some new mantles and BAM!, works like a charm!! I don't think I'll go all out like I have on most of the lanterns I've bought and just use it like it is. I'm calling this one "The Birthday Lantern" since it was made the same month and year I was born

Jeremy, thanks for all the info and links you've sent, I appreciate it greatly!!
