Generator Spring Stuck in Generator Tube

Postby PresTx82 » Sat Apr 18, 2009 8:44 pm

I'm doing a break down and rebuild on my 99 cent 425 stove, and I'm having a little problem with the generator spring.

Has anyone had a problem getting the spring out of the generator? The spring is stuck in the generator tube. I got it soaking in liquid wrench right now, but its wedged in there real good. A lot of carbon build up.

I'm sure I just have to be patient.

I have read heat it up with a torch. I have not tried it but some say it will work.

Carburetor cleaner works well on the carbon. I've got a couple of stoves that I couldn't get the spring out of. Did what I could to clean them up, carb cleaner, air blasts...stuck them back together and they worked. Neat little tray for soaking them in... Doug

I'll let it soak overnight then get the blow torch out tommorrow.

I "torched" the ends of a piece of PVC and sealed the ends in my vise, then cut the top off and laid my generator in there. Its a nice little soaking tray.

My stove is almost done. Looks good. I took some pictures during the process. I'll post when completed.

I will need to order me a decal from the decal guy to complete the project. 8)

As a last resort I tried electrolysis last night. I loosened it up pretty good, but not good enough. I ended up pulling the spring out, but stretched it so bad it'll never fit back in the tube. Hey, at least I tried!

I'll be ordering one from Robert Hitchcock, the parts guy.
