Lighting a 200a help

Postby jayg0351 » Wed Jun 24, 2009 9:24 am

I was wondering if the lighting of the 200a is always so dramatic. I mean the wooooop sound I get when I light the lantern. Am I letting to much gas in the lantern? What am I doing wrong?

...fill the tank only to about 80% of total volume...do not pump up to max...light it up first then finish pumping...the "experts" may have more/differing/other advice.....

That is normal if you do not light it often. The generator will dry out an you are getting more vapor than fuel.

Here is how I light them. (this assumes you have already buren in the mantle)
1) Relieve the fount pressure.
2) Pump it up 25-30 times.
3) Spin the tip cleaner a couple times. Make sure the tip cleaner is down when done.
4) Crack the valve open 1/4 turn only and listen. It will first hiss & then you will sputter/gurggle.
5) Turn valve off.
6) Wait a few minutes to let the gas clear.
7) Light match and insert into lantern.
8 ) Turn valve on 1/4 turn only.
9) After it lights, spin the tip cleaner a couple times. Make sure the tip cleaner is down when done.
10) Let the lantern burn 1 minute or so & then open the valve.

If you do it this way, it will not flare up as much. the key is to have the match lit before you open the valve.
