I came home from work today and there was a big green box on the counter. My wife asked if I knew what it was and why it was left on our porch. I told her I knew exactly what it was. It was the 413F that we used on all of our camping trips as far back as I can remember. I had asked my parents if they still had it. They said they did and I could have it if I wanted it. Too bad there wasn't a lantern to go with it. I know, pics or it didn't happen. I'll get one up soon. Needs some clean up and couldn't get pressure in the tank, so I'll tinker a little at a time with it.
That's the best find of all. Nothing better then a family keepsake. Every time you fire that thing up it will remind you of the good times the family had camping. I have our family lantern, can't find the stove.
As promised, here are the picks of the 413F. I'm going to have my work cut out for me. I don't think this thing has been fired for at least 30 years (after we put the stove in the pop-up)
As you can see from the tell-tale grease spot, the cap gasket leaks so no pressure (that and the pump leather has to be bone dry). I plan to tear down the tank tomorrow to see if I can revive it. maybe I'll give it a little custom treatment when I get it going. I think I'll put the B-day lantern hunt on hold till i get this up and running. will post pics for sure when I get fire.
Didn't even require a full cup of coffee. Pulled the pump and oiled it (the leather looked suprisingly good). Pumped right up. There was a tiny bit of fuel still in the tank so gave it a light.
Both going. Now its time to clean it up. I'll get a new fuel cap and some fresh fuel. Then I'll be cookin' with (white)gas.
Did a full tear down and cleaned all of the crust out of it. I decided to preserve the memories (AKA rust, dents and scratches) with a shot of clear coat on the outside of the case. The little bit of gas left in the tank was pretty dark, so now I have to dig around the basement for my BBs. When I get the tank cleaned, it will get some clear as well.
I'm hoping to score a 200A myself. Actually I think I would be happy with any of the single mantel lanterns (just like the shape), but the 200A will cover both my B-day and the Wife's so that is where I have been looking. The last few 9/65 have gone too high on the 'bay. I sure wish I had the kind of flea markets Kirk gets to go to.
Thanks for the offer, Kirk. I'm not in any hurry, but If one should jump into the CRV I would be honored to give it a good home. BTW the Wife's B-day is 1/68. I havent seen as many of those.
I too just acquired a 413 F from My FIL's Garage. In-laws past away a couple years ago & We've been cleaning out the house & garage. I found a couple of old Coleman Stoves & Lanterns. I gave My Oldest Son a 425 stove & a lantern. I kept the 413. I have had a propane converter for these stoves for Years. We hooked it up to the 413 & fired it up. I cant belive the heat & how well both burners are burning . i'm going to keep with My dutch oven stuff for heating water & things. Camper has stove & oven. Another Good thing Colemans Factory & Outlet store is about 25 miles from where I live. Wishbone-Ks
