2 new projects...

Postby doug hodder » Wed Jul 04, 2012 8:44 pm

I picked up a couple of new projects recently. First, is the 426 No letter 3 burner stove. I got this one from a fellow Coleman forum member. It's a 1949, the first year for the 426, sheet metal on this one is really heavy, and it's in great shape, it's a runner now. This will be my main camping user. I do plan a restoration on it, original. The rounded corners really make for a rigid body, and the edges are backed up with additional steel as well. I really like the cylinder type tanks...this one is extra large in diameter and has a nice big gennie on it. This stove is about as big as the 3 burner suitcase stoves got!

2nd is a 425E. This is a play stove for an upcoming contest that Kirk and I are cooking up, but Kirk seems to have dropped out of sight lately. Where are you? Details on the contest will be forthcoming, stoves and lanterns will be able to enter. It will really be a fun one, and will have a finish date quite a ways out so it won't be a rush for anyone. Steve E donated this one for the contest. Doug

Good looking 426 Doug, it will look great after you've worked your magic on it. I was thinking about which stove I would want in a trailer the other day. Leaning towards a 426 too (got 5 to choose from lol). It would fit a dandy oversized cast griddle I found at a garage sale recently. It's too big for even a 413.

I'll be interested to hear about the contest, even though I'm fresh out of 425s right now. Gave away the last one awhile back.

Doug, you thinking about going to 3 burners. I am thinking of going to 1 burner. Seems I don't cook nearly as much as you do and I usually only cook for me and I like one pot food. Then I happened on a real sweet 502 today and am thinking real serious about kicking my 425F out of the trailer. For me the only thing the left burner gets used for is trivet for hot pots and such, of course I also like to lean my cup of coffee/hot chocolate up next to the simmering tea kettle to keep a little warmer.

Will be interested in the contest. I guess my 220F is out as I have already messed with it.

Randy....when I cook camping, it's usually for a couple of others as well. This way I can run the oven, and have 2 burners to cook on at the same time. Perfect for the biscuits and gravy thing with sausage and eggs, which I only get when camping. I doubt I'll get another 426 as I have the first edition. Doug

I noticed you tend to cook for a lot of people. I noticed that while I stood in line waiting to get food.

Last winter I got me a real nice 426B that had only been used a little bit. The packing cardboard was still around the tank and there was a pair of oven mitts in there. But I will need a larger TV if I was to take that camping.
