NIER FEUERHAND

Postby Eddielbs » Sun Sep 23, 2012 9:48 pm

This weekend I went to a garage sale an found this 1920ish antique German NIER FEUERHAND Nr 260 lantern complete with globe for 3 bucks. After cleaning out some grass and a few bug bodies it seems everything is in working order. I'm going to try to fire it off tomorrow once I get some oil.

Oil lamps are cool. I do not have one. Maybe I should?

It's werking. :) And all it needed was a cleanup and some oil. In even using the old dry wick that was in it.

it's not as bright (sometimes I like that) as my Coleman's but the simplicity of it is great.

If the wick is old and dry you ought to let it sit in a full reservoir of fuel for a while before lighting, or a few drops carefully drizzled from from above goes a long way toward getting the capillary action primed. I suspect you knew all that! Nice score.

Walmart has the knockoff Dietz's for $6 but they are slapped together. I use em around the Gazebo and when Camping filled with Tiki Bugbiter.
