How about a winter "Coleman stove"contest?

Postby Woodbutcher » Sun Sep 23, 2012 9:54 pm

What do you guys think about a stove contest? My thought was anyone interested could customize a 425 or 413 or similar 2 burner Coleman stove. They can be had for only a few dollars and most people have access to one. Not sure on all the rules, maybe those interested could chime in. My thought would be it could be decorated anyway you want. It must fold and close, as it came from the factory and must work and be useable. You need to make one meal on it and post the result. This means you must not use flammable materials in your restoration. We would need someone who is not a Coleman collector or would not enter the contest to be the judge. All contestants would contact the judge to be eligible. The judge could keep count of how many stoves were entered. All photos would be sent to the judge and he/she would post all the pictures. No one voting would know who the stoves belonged to. Voting would be open to the whole forum for a period of 2 weeks. Maybe run the contest till March first with the voting starting around Valentines Day. This gives us time to complete the stove while we wait for the snow to melt.
If you want to make it more interesting each participant could put in 5 bucks with the winner taking all the cash. Don't really know how to work out the money details as to who holds it and how to get it to them. If this seems like a good idea to you guys chime in with details. If not cash then what does the winner get besides the adulation of all of us.

Any interest? If you have other ideas lets hear them. This could be really fun ,plus each participant has a cool stove to take camping. Everybody wins.

That sounds like fun! I'm sure that I can dig up a few stoves around here. I need a good winter project.

Good idea. Kirk and I had talked last spring about something like this. Me, I think it ought to have a shorter fuse on it. Waiting till Feb to put up pics, that's over 4 months away!.....but you all decide. Doug

I want to follow this I don't have a stove but I don't want to be a judge either I like the idea of a $5.00 entry fee now would that be per stove cause then half the cash should go to this site under the winners name as this is a great place to be and I would hate to loose it
I'll be following for sure

So you got time....go get a stove. It's kinda one of those things....it's something for others to watch, but if there is no participation why bother? That's what killed the teardrop racers at the IRG. Classic little red hen stuff.....I vote for no money, just bragging rights. For those participating, you're already going to be out money, time and effort.

Are there alot of pinecars out there in teardrop land? If so I am going to buy a track and bring it next year. Pinecar races are fun.

I am OK with no money involved. But we need more guys. Want to close it on New Years Day? OK. How about some more imput and we can put this to bed? Plus we need someone to post the entries who is not in the contest. There should be plenty of time to get a beater stove for those that do not have one.

I might be up for this. Is it a no holes bared; do anything we want to kind of thing?
Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind? Ask yourself these simple questions every time you are in doubt about any action.
